Do I need a doctors diagnosis?

My 7 year old has not been diagnosed with ADHD as of yet but I have read enough about it that I'm fairly certain he has it. The main reason I haven't had him diagnosed is that I want to help him without medication. I know there are steps we Need to take as parents with his behavior and performance at school , but can I start a discussion with his teacher about working with him and his special needs without a professional diagnosis. Will they even take me serious? I want to create a plan with his teachers to help him more but I don't know if they will take my word for it that there is something else contributing to his problems at school.

Diagnosis

This is a very common thought but I fear it is a mistake. Get the diagnosis, meds are an option at any time.

Keep an open mind and keep learning.

The school has systems and procedures for you to follow to get accommodations. Learn what they are.

There usually is an office at the school board, the school nurse and if there is a school psychologist can all provide info. Take advantage of their services. Good Luck Augie http://addsherpa.com

Get A Diagnosis, But There Are Lots Of Treatment Options...

Speaking as a doctor who treats ADHD, and as the mother of a son with ADHD, get a diagnosis first. If you are concerned about medicating your child, there are numerous treatment options available.
