Earliest ADHD signs you saw in your child? When was your child diagnosed and when did you just "KNOW"?
I am in my mid 30's and was recently diagnosed with ADD. What a revelation! Everything seemed to make sense in my world after that. Kinda. Lol. I am also the mother of a very beautiful, very smart and very challenging little girl :) I have heard from some parents before, that they saw some of the signs as early as age two and just "knew". As a mother or parent, you KNOW your own child right?
Before I had my daughter I was a preschool teacher, so I have had a lot of experience with children ranging from 18mths to 5 yrs for many years. Dealing with behavioral and learning disorders as well as autism in that time.
However, I have just never encountered such a mixture of issues with a child, (especially my own!) and felt so helpless and feeling like I am failing her. I know children cannot be properly diagnosed until they are at least 6. Really I am only interested in, I don't know... confirmation?? I get so tired of hearing my parents, friends, etc say that her anxiety is normal, (it's extreme) she doesn't need a therapist, she will outgrow it, that she is just a difficult child. (and we made her that way) IF her behavioral issues are ADHD related ... which my gut tells me they are... my husband and I just want to make sure we approach and deal them in the appropriate manners. I don't want to be disciplining our daughter for things that are beyond her control, and instead try to find ways to help my daughter. I still deal with the frustration and hurt of my parents not understanding my ADD and not even making any attempts to.
Can anyone relate or offer any comments on this please? Thanks! :)
