Do the WJ-III compuscore test results automatically come with PR as well as SS

I've asked my district to include percentile ranks as well as the standard score on my sons report. The Director refused first saying that she instructs her staff not to include them because they may be misinterpreted. Then she claimed it was a District Policy. When I asked for a copy of the policy she changed it it to being Special Ed. Dept. Policy and that as director she could chose to include or not include whatever she likes. When I still pushed she changed her story to now say that the WJ-III does not come with percentile ranks. Has anyone had access to a Compuscore print out for the WJ-iii and does it include the percentile ranks?

WJ-III compuscore test results

Hello AmazonMom,

I do not know if this reply will be of any help to you or if I am answering your question correctly. I have a 7 year-old son who is ADHD-combined type. We paid mega bucks (that we did not have) to get him a battery of psycho-educational testing completed so we could get a better picture of what was going on with him. I have been homeschooling him and our school system here in our small rural town will not cooperate with us. After his testing by an independant psycholoogist, it took about 1-1/2 months to get the results back in report form. For his WJ-III testing, it showed the subtest type in one column, which included the following: Letter-Word Recognition, Story Recall, Understanding Directions, Calculation, Spelling, Passage Comprehension, Applied Problems, Writing Examples, Story Recall-Delyaed, Word Attack, Picture Vocabulary, Oral Coprehension, Reading Vocabulary, Quantitative Concepts. Right under this it showed in bold LEARNING DISORDER AREAS: Basic Reading Skills, Rading Comprehension, Math Reasoning, Listening Comprehension, Oral Comprehension, Oral Expression. Then under that category of listings it showed BRIEF ACHIEVEMENT: Brief Reading, Brief Math, Brieg Writing, Oral Language.

Each of these had an individual score, percentile score, and grade equivalent score.

It is my opinion to say that your child's testing score should show a percentile rate as mine does. I am sorry if I totally misunderstood your question or did not answer your question as hoped. Good luck. I know how frustrating it can be trying to give your child the best and getting met with resistance.

Another thing. They should give you a copy of the test results. I think you have every right to that as it is part of your child's file in which you should have access.

WJ-compuscore test results

Thanks Frazzled! That's exactly what I wanted to know. Good idea about asking for a copy of my sons records and I'll be doing that next. I'm sad to say that having gotten the run around so many times and having been outright lied to before I don't trust that everything that should be in his record is in there.

Could you answer one more question please? Are the percentiles given as a range or as an individual precentage? For instance does it say Standard score 100 and show a corresponding percentile rank of 50% or does it give a range of Percentiles like 40% - 60%? I really appreciate your help!

Percentiles are usually less misinterpreted.

Ultimately, if they keep the compuscore as part of the record, you are entitled to it.

I find this ironic, seeing that Grade Equivalents are far more misleading and invalid than percentile scores. I prefer to present in Standard Scores and percentiles due to their better validity and lower likelihood of being misused... then, I provide other scores on request.

You do have a right to access your child's file. However, keep in mind that they have the right to go over it with you, particularly with regard to derived scores, which standard scores and percentiles are. It's appropriate for them to do so because it's important that those scores and their meanings are given in a context explained by a trained professional (in this case, likely the school psychologist). Percentiles are given as individual scores rather than ranges, but also keep in mind that there is a confidence interval for all standard scores, meaning a range that the scores would likely vary within if the test were repeated.
