Is this behaviour related to ADHD or is there something else too ??

Hi

We are based in the UK and our 10 year old son has been diagnosed with ADHD earier this year. He is currently on a low dose of Methlyphenidate 2.5mg at 6.30am to get him going and Equasym 10mg at 8.30am. This amount is half of his intial prescription as he has had seperation anxiety issues that were heightened by the meds. I am however seeing the Dr again on Tuesday to discuss increasing.

Whilst during the day our son is relatively easy, he can be oppositional and frustrating in that he takes an age to do anything even if its something he wants to do ! but it is managable. It is night-time that is tearing our family apart. We have a strict bedtime routine. 8pm TV off, bath, up to bed at 8.30, reading and cuddles. He still oposes this routine daily. Once we eventually get him out of the lounge, into the bath and up to bed he will then do whatever he can to cause a ruccus. He wants food, wants the dog upstairs etc. He will often do things to ignite our anger, last night he continued to say the word 'birthday' in different voices over and over whilst making noises with his mouth blowing his breath into my face - he wanted a reaction. Last night he got one, I was SO angry as I am mentally exhausted. I work daily (in a job I love and use as respite from family life) but by 8pm I have little energy and patience left. Words don't put into context how exhausing this is and that is just one example.

I seriously can't take too much more and I am wondering if his issues are ADHD or something entirely different. I do believe he has ADHD but these issues could be alongside the ADHD. What are your thoughts do any other ADHD parents out there endure such behaviour ? If so I would really appreciate your advice etc.

If you need anymore information please ask Thank you

ADHD symptoms?

Wish I had a definative answer for you, but I don't.

I know you are tired at the end of the day: work, commute, household stuff, and a ADHD child. How much time & attention is your child getting from you before bedtime?

It could be that your child wants more attention than he has been getting. So, he may be pushing your buttons because bad attention is better than no attention.

Hi there!

It could be ADHD or it might be something else. Have you tried seeking a professional?
