Weight loss issues

I'm 25 yrs old and I gained alot of weight due to pcos and a low thyroid. I am trying to lose weight but I lack the focus. I have resources to help me lose weight its just trying to maintain the focus and motivation. Is anyone else going through this, or has gone through this or has any suggestions? I don't like working out at gyms. I've tried that and I end up paying for a membership that I don't use. I work out at home. I have a treadclimber, free weights, total gym, and a women's health big book of exercises, plus all kinds of work out dvd's. So it's not like I don't have anything to help me lose weight.

Diet is the Key

I have been struggling with being overweight my entire life. Because of ADD I used to eat impulsively.

Losing weight can be challenging but once you've realized what works for you, its only as hard as you want to make it.

Remember: "You lose weight in the kitchen!".

Just make sure that you eat healthy and are able to control your fat/carb in take. That (in my opinion/experience) accounts for 70% of weight loss. The other 30% is your workout but it looks like you already have that covered since you have all the tools.

Good luck.

Thank you! I've been trying to watch what I eat and i do a decent job of it i think. I would really like to get motivated and focused on working out because it makes me feel better i know i'll see results faster and it helps me concentrate. But i have been watching what i eat and how much.

No more boring gym

I completely understand what you are saying. I have the same problems. I find it difficult to stick to a diet because even when you want to, because I am always busy and running aroud. I find it difficult to remember to cook and end up so hungry that I pick up something on the go. That is never good. I wish we all could get personal chefs to cook for us and clean up after so we eat properly. lol

Diet is very important part of weightloss, but so is exercise. The gym is boring. The tread climber is boring. You can only do 1 thing at a time or you aren't working hard enough on the machine to lose weight. What I suggest to you is to go to classes. Not glasses at the gym but exercise classes at a seperate facility outside of a gym such as a Yoga studio, spinning studio, MMA club, boxing club or dance center. These places have lots of people. They interact with you on many levels so it keeps you stimulated and not as bored. I find that when I exercise regularly moderate-intence exercise 3 times a week, then I am better able to cope with other attention issues I am having. I find that other people don't necessarily get the same bennefit out of it as I do, so it depends on the person. Also, if you follow exercise in a routine, it makes it easier to do. So if a class is every day at 6pm, you will be more likely to go, then if you get to decide yourself when you are going to the gym. Because if you are anything like me, that time for the gym never comes.

I hope this helps and Good luck.

Thank You!

Thank you! I don't like working out with other people, usually because I can't find anyone to go with me. Right now I live in a new town and the only people i know are the people at work but i live 30 mins away. i've actually been doing better with the working out. My husband is working out with me and we have set days to workout. I've been tracking my weight and body fat also to keep me on track. I would love to do a class once we move. (we are moving back to myrtle beach. we have friends there and taking a class will be alot easier.) Now that i have been working out more i'm just trying to keep my focus on doing it. I get on the treadclimber for at least 10 mins. I try to read a book on my kindle to take my mind off of what im doing so that i dont become bored and get off. so far it's helping. I am also setting little goals, where before i would set big goals and then fail and then i would get off the weight loss wagon. Finding little things to keep me focused (because i have absolutely no focus at all) and motivated (like wanting to start a family next fall) is helping. I would love to take a dancing class!! So once we move and get settled in i think i'll do something like that to help the weight loss. Thank you so much for you info!! And good luck to you too!!!

Me too

Hello :-)

I too have had weight issues, very low metabolism for me. When I can maintain a low carb regimen (since I usually prepare 80%+ of all my meals for that) and moderate exercise, it not only helps my weight but also seems to help my focus some.

Problem for me is when I'm in a job with variable hours and un-regular schedule, plus additional stress of the job. I lost track of my exercise, not the eating but the exercise. When the weight started coming back, I lost interest in discipline of the low carb regimen.

Do you enjoy watching movies? If you have the exercise equipment where you can put on a movie you LIKE to watch, might be easier and more distracting from the TEDIUM of exercise equipment. I'm in a place with a fitness center, but after the first few weeks, working out in a room (even with a radio) and no "movie" or easy distraction just became boring and tedious. I'm thinking of starting simple yoga a few minutes a day and like baby steps, add pilates or something even if I have to do it in front of the tv.

Good luck!

Same boat: I also have suspected PCOS with weight issues and ADD

Hi! Kari,

The only thing that helps me motivate is to sign up for charity walk type stuff. I did one every month or so while TTC (trying to concieve) 5 years before succeeding for baby boy #1. I just used the 5k charities for various health issues. They were local and didn't have any mandatory minimum donations beyond a basic fee for entry that covered expences and t-shirt. That helped me FOCUS on practice walking during the month or so before the walk. So that is my tip on motivating exercise.

Meals are another issue for me. I can have all the good intentions in the world for meal planning and cooking but I never seem to keep it going more than a few weeks. Blah! Let me know if you have an ideas for me on that one. LOL! Hope I helped you! Smiles! Janet
