What do I do?

My son is 9 years old and was on Adderall XR for approx. a year and a half. He is not a very big guy, weight wise, he is four foot five inches and only weighs 54 pounds. We were always watching his weight closely on the Adderall and then at the end of the school year he began having issues with his heart. We immediately stopped with the medication and let him have the summer off from medications. Over the summer we have noticed that he began to do different tics and he has gone back to having bowel movements in his pants. We are trying to find a new medication to assist him in school and I am really having a hard time. He just took his first dose of Concerta and he was sick all day long. I guess I am just looking for someone to bounce ideas off and to listen to anybody elses stories. Sometimes it is just so hard to talk to someone who doesn't know what it is like. Is the Concerta not a good idea with the past issues that we have dealt with or do I give it a little more time? Is there another medication that doesn't have as many side effects? Any feedback would be greatly appreicated.

I found when we gave our daughter her Concerta on an empty stomach it made her feel awful and sick to her stomach. So now, we make sure she has some breakfast in her belly first and then give it too her. We love the Concerta and hoping that this one will be the one for her, it's been the first one we've tried. She's been on it since June and it's been up and down and all around with the dosages. We find that when her dose is too low for her, she starts to have a neck tick.

The Medicated Child

I was in the same situation about 2yrs ago when my now 11yr son was diagnosed with ADHD. I could not accept the idea that my child had this so called diagnosis of ADHD. Children are children. They are suppose to run around and be silly laugh-out-loud. My son was placed on two different medications at different times and was experiencing chest pains headaches nausea and started to develop ticks. I then stopped giving him these medications and began doing further research and found natural alternatives to help with my son's condition. As a mother I urge you to watch this documentary that will show you the other side of medicating your child. If you have Netflix i recomend you watch... "Generation RX" and " The Medicated Child" . These were an eye opening for my husband and I. We now have our son on a sugar free diet and vitamins and Omega3 foods and supplements and he is doing much better. As a parent we want what is best for our kids. So we need to think not only about our child's life now but their future as well. I highly recommdend you watch these two documentaries.
