Affectiveness of Intuniv

Hello. I'm new here, so maybe this question has been asked but I didn't see it... My question has to do with Intuniv. My (at the time) 7 year old daughter has tried a few medications for ADHD (main issue is impulsiveness), but the side affects were too much (weight loss, sleepy, weepy). We then started intuniv maybe 9 months ago. Started at 1 mg. Saw instant results! YEA! Then, after about 6 weeks, the positive results faded. I could see it still helping her with staying on task, but her impulsiveness started rearing its ugly head. We went up to 2 mg's. Same thing. Saw a big difference between the 1 mg and 2 mg's.... but only for about 6 weeks. Make a long story short, the Doctor recently put her up to 4 mg's (she's now 8 and 60 pounds). She was a walking zombie. Tired all the time. Yet, couldn't sleep. Bad stomach ache. She was on it for 1 week and yesterday I gave her NOTHING. She just wasn't herself on the 4 mg's. But yesterday, it was obvious why she was on medication (ohhhhh, was she naughty! lol). So, today i put her back on 3 mg's (she was on that for about 8 weeks prior to the doc moving her up to 4. So, my bottom line question is, does intuniv work for the long haul? has anyone been on it for more than 3 months and is it still affective? I did see on their website that it was unknown if it works longer than 9 weeks (huh? what's the point of putting a child on a medication that only works for 9 weeks?). So, i'm a bit confused. I would love to hear from anyone that has had their child on it for more than 3 months. I'm acutally wondering if maybe i'm expecting a miracle drug and instead i now need to work with her more one-on-one while she's on the 3 mgs and go from there.

Thanks in advance for any feedback!

I would love to know about this too!!!

I'm new here so I posted on a different thread about Intuniv. Does it work??? My son's psychiatrist gave us a starter pack.

9 weeks??? I agree- why give a child a medication that only lasts nine weeks?

BTW, we are trying to stay away from stimulants at this time as he is only 4 and he needs to GAIN weight.

I will! :-)

Mom10, no luck with my thread but there is one on here that is pages and pages long about intuniv. Main side effect seems to be sleepiness and weight gain, which would be a plus for for my son....
