looking for a diagnosis in jacksonville florida.

I recently went threw a depression. I used to drink aIot as well as do drugs.I noticed my god-daughter having behavorial issues in school and notice that were similiar to mine when I was a kid. I didn't listen well, I did what i want to do,and I was hard-headed, (this is what I was told growing up). I looked online for symptoms and said yes to quite a few questions, to my dismay. At the same time, I was diagnosed with bipolar and seeking disability. I filed an application with the administration and subsequently was denied. But, was funny ironically, when I was at the mental exam, I spoke of possibly having adhd with bipolar and was told by the examiner I had to pick one cause I couldn't have both. So I'm fustrated . how do I get diagnosed when there are no doctors in jacksonville the specialize in diagnosis only treatment.

ADHD help in Jax

Check out the Baptist Behavioral Health network. There is a branch in Yulee with a psychologist (Dr Leavy), psychiatrist (Dr Pollock), and social worker (can't remember name). They really seem to know their stuff, and the psychologist in particular has a lot of experience with ADHD. I wouldn't focus on finding a specialist in diagnosis, I think that's too fine a filter. Get someone who knows the whole picture, and I would say these folks do. I think you can call through the main switchboard at Baptist Hospital.

Hope that helps!

Comorbid Diagnosis

Hello there: I think you definitely need to seek out an expert in attention deficit. The truth is that ADD/ADHD very often goes hand in hand with 'comorbid' conditions such as depression, bipolar disorder, OCD, etc. I would suggest checking the ADHD Directory for a specialist in your area: http://directory.additudemag.com/Guide/ADHD_Doctors_Therapists_Psychologists_Diagnosis_Help

You might also want to ask other Floridians for doctor recommendations in our 'ADHD in Florida' support group: http://connect.additudemag.com/groups/group/ADHD_in_Florida/

The folks in our ADD Adults group (http://connect.additudemag.com/groups/group/ADD_Adults/) or our Bipolar Disorder and ADHD group (http://connect.additudemag.com/groups/group/Bipolar_Disorder_and_ADHD/) might have some insights to share!

I hope this helps.
