any advice will be helpful

Hey again... I didn't get any replies to my 1st post so I figured I'd post a new one. I'm having a pretty rough go of it at the moment. I am going through Post Acute Withdrawal from alcohol & opiate addiction [almost 6 months sober post rehab] & my Bi-Polar & ADHD meds are not working as well as they should.

My therapist & meds nurse told me that as my brain 're-wires' after years of alcohol/opiate abuse, that they will start to work again. In the meantime, does anyone have any similar experience? Does anyone have any advice or suggestions for me to deal with my current situation? Thanks in advance. Illuminati

I'm no expert, but i've certainly got ADHD. I've found yoga to be very helpful in getting control of an out of control ADHD mind. After my first class I remember saying to myself, "Wow! This is better than drugs!" I'd recommend going to an organized, scheduled class (or classes) with a good instructor. If you're anything like me, it's almost impossible to get motivated to do it alone on a routine basis, Good luck!

Connecting With Other ADD Adults

Hi there: You might find some great insight and first-hand experience from other members of our support group for ADD Adults with a history of substance abuse: http://connect.additudemag.com/groups/group/Smoking_Drinking_Substance_Abuse_and_ADHD/

ADDConnect (ADDitude's community site) is a great place to connect with others and ask very pointed questions to specific support groups. I hope you find it useful!

Getting it back together...

Thanks for the suggestions, everyone. I am very hesitant about doing Yoga, or anything that will put stress on my lower back...I had spinal fusion 4 yrs ago...fused from L-4 to S-1, & I have sciatic nerve damage & pain.

I've been way up & down...my Meds nurse & therapists attribute that to the Post Acute withdrawal stuff, so they are tweaking my meds. I hope that helps. Thanks again for your replies...its nice to know i'm not all alone
