Issues w/cleaning and organizing my room

So I recently finished grad school, and now that I'm out, I need to really get my room out of it's current state of disaster and dysfunction. The problem is I don't know how to deal with all my extra "stuff" and my mountains of paper. (I live in a Manhattan apartment, so I only have so much room). I have no problems organizing other rooms, like kitchens or bathrooms, mainly because it makes "sense" to me where to put everything. But my room (in which I do basically everything besides cooking and bathroom stuff) is always a problem.

Has anyone here had success in : 1) paring down and/or making organizational sense of a lot of disparate "stuff"? and/or 2) organizing paper in a way that is effective?

Organizing After Grad School

This is about me too! Today I went through the first of about four large boxes of papers,e tc. that I saved. I have saved all my notebooks. I have my textbooks too. Classmates of mine are going to Amazon's Textbook buyback program, (Check it Out) but I know I can't part with my precious books. I love my books! So now I am file foldering and putting things into file piles. I am throwing out alot too. It feels great. You realize that so much of what you know is in your head. Hopefully to stay! haha.
