I feel sleepy when I have nothing to do

When I was a teenager and a little boy, I was very hyperactive, inattentive, talkative, impatient, fidgety and a daydreamer. I am 21 now, and I don't feel as hyperactive or impulsive as I used to be, but I have a high tendency to forget and misplace things. For example, I once left my TV remote inside my refrigerator without being aware of it. My complaint is that I can't stay awake unless I am interested in something. If I don't have anything fun to do, I slowly start to feel tired and bored. When something interests me, I feel very alert and energized. I suspect it could be ADD, but I don't know. All I know is that I feel bored most of the time and I really don't care as to what's going on around me.

Also, I tend to speak fast, call people by the wrong name, and flip words around in a sentence (ex."They are racing for a team on the spot").

Me too...I am 47...

and I was recently diagnosed. I have suffered from depression and anxiety and have been on meds for over 14 years. I am not on any medication for ADD or ADHD yet, I have to have a physical before the doctor decides if that is the best thing for me. He seems to think that my depression/anxiety that I have had since I was a kid is the missing link to the puzzle.

I am the same way as you, if I don't have anything to do, I tend to go to bed and sleep. It bothers my family as there are many things I can do at home, but those are things I just complain about but I don't have the motivation to do them. I only have the energy and desire when it is something that really interests me.
