Recovery the OS, what should I do?

A couple of months ago I purchased an eMachines E350 Netbook. Have not had a single problem with it until one day it seems to be attacked by some virus. Then the netbook cannot work. I am so worried and take it to a repair shop, finding the OS needs to be reinstalled which will cost about $100 USD. My firend has a USB flash disk that contains OS system. Should I just use his flash disk?
