without diagnosis

I'm new to the forum and I have a son and possibly a daughter who has ADD/ADHD. My son is the one the Doctors are looking at right now. He is not my biological son and has a heavy history full of ADHD diagnosis on his bio fathers side. His bio mom is Schizophrenic and to top it all off the Doctors feel he has FAS/FAE to some degree. Right now he does not have any official diagnosis as he is too young at 5 and they won't officially test him until he's at least 7. My daughter who is blood relation to my son is also presenting some signs as well. I've been struggling with my sons behavior and the older he gets the more tougher it seems to get. He's escaped out of our house twice, through his bedroom window because he thought it was fun :( This led of course to the children's ministry getting involved and now I feel like a terrible mother. Most of my girlfriends don't really understand any of this and have been avoiding us. I'm just done..

find another Dr!!

I am new to here too! My son was diagnosed with ADHD a day before his 4th birthday. Your son is not too young to be diagnosed, It just depends on the Dr. I have my son enrolled in Head Start which connected me to a therapist,who referred me to a child psychiatrist who diagnosed him and now he's seen by his pediatrician. It was a process and it can be done. If your Dr. doesn't want to do it.. find another! My son jumped out of our windows too, several times!! I had to screw them shut.He did it because he apparently thought it was "fun" or because he could.. so I totally understand how you feel. A mother always knows..don't take no for an answer! You are NOT a horrible mother..it is not your fault!!! Just keep your chin up ..do the best you can.. because it's going to be a tough fight! ((HUGS))
