Need some advice

I am a 44 year old female. I have a grandson who is ADHD his mom was recently diagnosed with ADD. After doing all the research and now being in a job that requires total concentration without any breaks, I am really believing that I am also ADD. My family doctor want me to go for a full assessment before he will even talk about medication. I understand that but the assessment is about $2,000 and I can't afford that. I also concerned that my performance at work is not as it should be and I am consistently 10 minutes or so late each morning - regardless of how hard I try to get out of the house on time.

Does anybody have any suggestions on what to do? I am really in bind as my husband recently lost his job and I certainly can't afford to lose mine - we are barely getting by as it is.

Thanks in advance.

Debra

Your normal is normal

Hi, your post caught my eye, i am a mom of a wonderful son who is full spectrum autistic. Also has cronic anxiety mild Toretts and is borderline lower intellectual functioning .his father left us very early on I'n his life. Although he is not ADHD . The tantrums the behaiviors and the challenges are very similar .he is now 28 and living on his own with supported living services..although it helps..I still have to care for his needs around the clock. I am so proud of him.but still the stress is overwhelming..i I'n my journey found that i am ADD. I have the same problems you have. I'm tardy for the party. Leave cupboards open loose my keys etc..you have a lot on your plate..I have learned at age fifty..I can't bite off more than i can chew.i keep my life very organized..i give myself time limits for daily tasks.still find myself getting disracted. Or mentally dwelling. Don't let other people rent space I'n your head. Surround yourself with good people. Ask for help.as your husband is not working outside of the home, he will feel productive and like your hero if maybe you give a list of chores and tasks to him. Tell him you need him. Admit that you have ADD, and without him you would fall apart. This will make your marriage stronger I'n these hard times.say no..remember you can't take on the world.although at times you feel you are letting people down, don't set yourself up for failure. If you only can get up make the bed eat beakfast shower and go to work. That's fine. Leave yourself a large window of time. That might mean going to bed early so you can wake up and have enough time. At work you might make lists and time frames. Timer and post it notes help me. And cut yourself some slack..if you feel your production is down don't wait till they come to you. Go to HR. Or your boss and have a heart to heart talk. Laugh a little . I'm sure there is some things you can poke fun at about yourself...and I'm sure others find you very endearing .bless your heart. You are out there doing the best you can. Some might give up all together..stay strong but just keep things organized and calm. Hope that helps..i do understand. Gods speed. :-) luv2 rocku

Somthing to say about the 2,000

You should maybe look for another doctor..my assessment was about 400 dollars..i tried many meds. I did not like them.i found that diet, mild exercise , behavior modification and phyc therapy has done wonders. Also keep I'n mind you may also be dealing with post MP problems as well. If you have insurance they should cover it. If not you can find clinics that charge on a curve..try to google free or low cost testing I'n your area..:-)

Find a new doctor and get a physical

My doctor diagnosed it after several things were ruled out, and then my daughter was diagnosed. There are other things that mimic ADHD, so I guess a doctor can and should be cautious. But why don't you get a second opinion from another doctor? If your insurance covers it, maybe try a psychologist who specialized in ADHD for help. If that person suspects you have it, certainly he/she can refer you to a good physician.

Debra

Hi Debra: I just joined 10 mins ago: you need to get assesed. Contact a support group or find an ADHD Coach who has a list of doctors who can assess you for the right price. I actually got my psychiatrist to knock off $200 because I just started a business and allowed me to pay monthly on the balance. I know what you are up against and the late thing is gonna cook your goose. Been there. I know you crap every time the boss wants to speak with you and you feel sillyafter because of how bad you thought it was gonna be; but it wasn't. But the road is running out and either you or your boss will deal with the ADHD-late thing. Sorry to be blunt; I'm usually very light and funny, but I want you to act on this. Now you know why I have my own business. I hope this was useful & I post with the uttmost respect Debra. I wish you and yours all the best, really! Cheers, George PS: notice I didn't say to "just leave earlier" or "put your clock ahead 15 mins." because I "get it".
