my heart is racing with my kids legs

My son came home from school yesterday so hyperactive, I couldn't handle it. It started with the most severe pressured speech (lasted hours of NON-STOP chattering, aaaaahhhhhhhh!), changing his mind 4 times about dinner (yogurt, salami, lox sandwich, cereal, followed by climbing on the table to reach a different food, spilling milk on table, chair, floor several times), running from activity to activity (TV, computer game, bathroom, kitchen, dining room, aaaaaahhhhhhhhh!) and more non-stop talking, negotiating, begging, etc etc etc......... OMG ! MY nerves were shot. Of course, I began to yell, put him in time out twice. I think I'm the one who need medication for my nerves. He wears a patch for his meds, which I think he peeled off too early, so I told him to keep it on till he comes home. Nevertheless, assuming this activity level is a part of him for the long run, how do I work on myself to become more patient and tolerant when I want to scratch my eyeballs out?!

Hyperactivity Help

Hi there,

It sounds like you have your hands full. I'm sorry to hear about all of the challenges you're going through, but it says a lot about you as a parent that you're trying to do everything you can to help your child and yourself. Have you thought about seeking the advice of a treatment professional? It seems like both you and your child could benefit.

In the mean time, ADDitude has several articles that might be of help to you:
