Totally Absurd! They had to see this coming

If it were the decision makers who had to take it daily, it would be a different story now wouldn't it. I believe they saw this coming but rather than lmissing out on the revenues from people switching, they just drug it out. Teva Pharmaceuticals makes Adderall & generic and Shire makes the XR and says there is no shortage with the XR at all in fact I posted their number a minute ago .

Perspicacious said: The shortage affects my productivity, disrupts my routine, and is stressful. The name brand does not work as well for me as the generic and the cost difference with my insurance is over $100. Nine pharmacies in my area are out for over a month. I had the same issue last month. My prescription plan stopped mailing the med to me, which I never thought this was a good idea since the amount of paperwork they would send made it very easy for the post office to figure out what the package contained. Phone calls to customer service are a waste of time, although I do enjoy the touch-tone music of press 1 for and 2 for... My life would sound like the NY Philharmonic with a 5-year-old conductor if I did not take generic Adderall. The pharmaceutical companies, FDA and any others involved should be ashamed of causing so much turmoil. http://abcnews.go.com/Health/generic-adderall-xr-shortage-leaves-patients-scrambling-find/story?id=13547267 I posted to ABC news; maybe more media coverage will help us.

Hard time finding adderall in central Indiana

I live in central Indiana and have 2 prescriptions for myself each month so not only now do I have to go to my doc's office every month to get the pieces of paper, I now have to call around and see who has my medication in stock. I went to the 2 main pharmacys here in town and neither had the generic instant release adderall 10 mg in stock. I called another pharmacy this morning - they were out too. I finally called the all-in-one super store and they had 100 of them in stock to which I replied that I needed 90 for the month. I literally told the pharmacist I would be there in 5 minutes and ran out the door. I got my script this month but it was almost 3x what I normally pay. I've had problems getting it filled at least two other times in the last 4 months. Seems a little scary that the powers that be are acting so irresponsibly with medication ingredients that people need just to face the day.

Was Shire able to locate a pharmacy for you?

I got Shire on the phone at the correct number. They take you're name and number and zip code and ask how far you would be willing to drive. They are supposed to be calling me back with a pharmacy who has the pills on hand. Seem nice and helpful so we will see if they find it!

The number is: Adderall XR | Shire | Pharmacy Finder Hotline 800-828-2008 (select option 5.) Hope this helps.

Adderall Shortage

I am on Dexadrine and found the same problem. I was told by all of the pharmacies that it will not be in until the beginning of next year. (Jan. 2012) When I went to my doctor he told me that they were having more of a problem with Adderall. I was prescribed Ritalin.

adderall shortage - Newport News VA

There's been a shortage here in the Hampton Roads Area of Virginia...

Wal-marts turned me away since June... My unemployment has ran out and I had to cancel my cobra insurance so I feel like I'm double screwed... A CVS said they had ritalin or adderall xr but my shrink charges $60 bucks to change script... The craziest thing is I just got diagnosed with Adult ADHD in March and I'm a full time student... It was making life super amazing... Now I feel like a train wreck waiting to happen again!!! Story of my life!

Where I have gotten my 30 mg generic adderall throughout shortag

Hi everyone,

Like everyone else during this time of panic and frustration, I too was searching frantically and calling every major pharmacy imaginable. I happened to stumble across a small mom & pop pharmacy that is independently owned and decided to give them a call. They said they had an ample supply of my medication because they somehow knew this shortage was coming and ordered a large supply to get them through this. So I would just put in "pharmacies in (city, state) and call one's that don't appear to be main stream and perhaps you will have better luck. The only problem is that the price just keeps going up every month. Before the shortage I was paying $21 for 30 mg (30 count) and last month I paid $47, so be prepared to dish it out. But I really do need this medication to get myself through college since I graduate in December, so to me the sacrifice is worth every penny. Local pharmacies are receiving Adderall still, but it doesn't last long. I called my local CVS last month and said they had gotten in a shipment and it was all sold-out the same day. So just be alert and do some research. I hope this helps a little! Good luck, I wish you the best!

THERE IS NO SUCH THING AS AN ADDERALL EMERGENCY

While a shortage, specifically of the short acting stimulant, is an inconvenience it is NOT AN EMERGENCY. Good luck to all you adults frantically searching for the short acting version of Adderall which works SO MUCH BETTER for you.

Are you me? Didn't know people could know exactly how I feel.

Why on earth would you think it's not better for us? Do you know first hand how we feel? Have you lived as us before? Everyone is different, humans are complex. Speaking as someone who has experienced a change in my quality of life since Adderall, it is a scarey thought to suddenly stop taking a medication. While the world isn't coming to an end because of it, and it's just another problem that will be solved, it's frustrating. Based on your statements, I wonder if you even have ADHD- well, you at least completly lack empathy. I hope you don't work with children, especially not those with ADHD!

Im loosing my patience and my mind!

Im on Adderal xr in the am and the reg short acting in the afternoon, and has had it that way for over a year and now. For the last 2 months I cant get the short acting because of the "shortage". I luckily found a pharmacy 15 miles away that will fill my XR rx tomorrow thankfully but have been rationing my medication to get me thru so I don't go with none. I am so extremely frustrated that the drug companies cant manufacture enough to supply to the pharmacies. I call daily like i'm trying to get a spot into rehab to see if they have my drugs. Is it going to come to the point where im gonna have to ask street people where i can score? This is absolutely sickening, because now the pharmacies are telling me to tell the dr to ask for a different type of add med. Well i swear i tried everything under the sun and Adderall is the only thing that has helped. I know im not the only one out there alone, medication-less and frustrated.. Anyone know where i can look?.. Im in RI

Unable to Fill my Daughter's prescriptions.....

both my girls take Adderall. In the Chapel Hill Durham area you CAN NOT FILL THE PRESCRIPTION! SO FRUSTRATING!

Went back to the doctor today to get a new prescription....isn't it curious that Shire US INC, which manufacturers Adderall now offers a new (non-generic) drug.. which costs 10x what the generic Adderall costs....curious that Adderall is no longer available..oh excuse me, is on market-wide back order........can you say price gouging....market munipulation....

Houston, TX is right in line with the rest of you

I spent over 3 hours on the Phone Saturday calling every pharmacy under the sun that would have enough to fill both myself and my husband's script. Fortunately I was able to get 1 of our scripts filled at Target (of all places). All of our normal pharmacies keep telling me mid January before the 15mg generic is available much less the 30mg. Now of course if I am willing to fork over an additional $80 bucks (after my insurance) I can get the XR....quess it's back to the drawing board or my pocket book.

Best of luck everyone.....hopefully this $hit ends soon!!!!

Can't Call Pharmacies

I don't know if it is just a Georgia law, or if it is everywhere, but I tried to call around to pharmacies to see if they had the genaric Adderall, and was told by the Wal-Mart pharmacy that because it is a controlled substance, they cannot tell me over the phone if they have it in stock. So I drove there and lucky enough, they have had it for the last 2 months. I'm sure they will run out soon, along with everyone else.

Shortage is Company Tactic

I used to work for Shire Pharmaceuticals, the creator of Adderall, Adderall XR, Vyvanse, etc. I was still with the company when Vyvanse launched and the company goal was to get as many patients as possible switched to Vyvanse from Adderall or Adderall XR since generics of those medications were becoming more prevalent. The company wants Vyvanse to be its cash cow and the way to get more patient on it is to restrict the other medications. The raw materials necessary to make Vyvanse are similar to adderall/XR. (Look into the intial research studies from New River Pharmaceuticals). Unfortunetly, we have no power over this situation unless you are bitter enough to refuse to use Shire products going forward. This isn't a conspiracy, it's simply a tactic by the largest ADD company in the world....and its been relatively effective.

Washington state is dry...I mean out too

Sigh...I've been told several different reasons out of all the pharmacies I have called. A Sav-On Pharmacy person told me what other stores in their chain had (or more like barely had)…even in Spokane, which is at least 5hrs one way…seriously… So WHEN in January of 2012 will the pharmacies be stocked? Has any one heard a date? I couldn't believe they could ever be out of these meds unless there are too many being misdiagnosed, cause how come I don't know anyone else in my area with ADHD... 14 years ago Island Mental Health wouldn't create a support group for us, they had a list for us to vote on and ADD/ADHD wasn't on it. On the other hand, who would remember to show up! I am shocked that this thread started early this year when I am just hearing about a shortage now. Not that things have been peachy…my meds were changed because we moved to Seattle and the new doctor didn’t like narcotics, so he changed it to Adderall…well he thought this was the bee’s knees, the miracle drug to combat ADD/ADHD…but it is not a one size fits all cure-all…and every single person lucky enough to have ADHD and all the wonderful co-morbidities (there is a nicer sounding word for them, but I can’t think of it) that may accompany it…then I moved back from the Seattle experience and tried Vyvanse…then begged to get back to the Dex…it wasn’t great but it was better than the others…the capsules are not my thing…a few weird things happened during the first week and a half that were spooky and I just wanted back on the dex tab…there is the shortage in my area in Washington and apparently everywhere. I am so saddened to hear of all the problems that this shortage has and is causing. Also glad to hear how successful certain meds have helped others. I better stop rambling…Flippy ;-)

Thank you!!!

I was just searching on the internet for what to do and I just so happen to have Caremark Rx insurance, and a able to get my new rx by mail order this way. I made an account just to say THANK YOU for posting this, it's a lifesaver!!!

FocusedMom said: Carmy, I'm so sorry to hear that you have been experiencing the same problem! Luckily, I have quite a bit of the short-acting Adderall left over so I've been taking that. I ended up calling CVS Caremark (online company that fills presciptions...I've gotten my asthma meds filled by them before, but never ADD meds). They have PLENTY of Adderall XR and foresee NO PROBLEMS with any back-orders in the near future. (???)

I was a little leary about mailing off this paper prescription/getting the medicine back as it's a controlled substance, but I felt that I had no choice. The website is www.cvs.com. Go to "Pharmacy Services" and see caremark.com. Hope this helps!

Drug Shortage

Everyone,

The below New York Times article from this morning explains the cause of the ADHD medication shortage. The FDA has stated that the shortages are the result of overly strict quotas set by the DEA's Office of Diversion Control. I believe that the DEA's actions are in violation of the Americans with Disabilities Act. Once again, we have to advocate for ourselves. The man at the center of the controversy is DEA Special Agent Gary Boggs. His contact information is below. Please reach out to this public servant and let him know that his actions are impacting you in a negative way.

adderall shortage

Medication producers are facing crippling shortages of raw materials, leading to drug shortages nationwide. Adderall, a popular Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder medication, is in dangerously short supply. Article resource: http://www.newsytype.com/14225-adderall-shortages/. This is a bad news. FDA should take action for this.

medication shortage

Re Adderall and other shortages, my pharmacist told me that because these are controlled substances, the companies that make them have to petition the federal government to make them and they are only allowed to make a certain amount for the year, when that runs out they have to again petition the fed gov to make more. There seem to be many more users of these drugs all the sudden than they are making. He hoped the problem would be solved after first of the year, but still they have none.

Mass Shortage since Summer of 2010

I live in the Boston Metro area and we have been dealing with a severe shortage for a year and a half. I have spent hours driving from pharmacy to pharmacy because they will not hold it if you call. This shortage has gotten absurd and I think the FDA is at the root of it. This is a medication that needs to be regulated, but not limited beyond the point where the people who need it can not receive it.

I am stockpiling small amounts for my sons so that they will be assured to have it for the SAT's and AP exams.

Write your congressman!

adderall shortage almost over

hi guys, I have been having the same problem for a few months now with medication shortage. Both myself & my son take Adderall & I have a daughter that takes concerta. Our local pharmacys have been short some even running out. Some of the pharmacys had like the 5 or 10 mg pills but not 20mg so we would have to get our Dr. to rewrite the script to that mg & just adjust the amount we would take at 1x. My pharmacist told me the reason that they are low is because there is only a certain amount by law the company is allowed to distribute to each state each yr & we have reached our max. Therefore causing some to be out completely. However good news on the way!!!! March is suppose to be the turn over month from what I understand & it will start the new counter over. So you should be good here soon.
