Coffee makes me sleepy -- I think I have ADD and anxiety issues. Advise anyone? :)

Hi everyone,

You can call me KSmi. I am 23 years old. Coffee has always made me sleepy ever since I started drinking it. That would prolly be 6 years ago? Anyway, coffee also makes my stomach queasy so I am definitely not a fan.

Until recently, I read that coffee actually has a calming effect on ADD/ADHD people. I learned about this because I got bored during a vacation trip and Googled why coffee makes me sleepy. LOL. After reading about it, I then asked myself if I have ADD w/o me knowing it. I looked at signs and symptoms, but I am not entirely sure if I could be classified as one. Sure I drift off during conversations once in a while, but that wouldn't be enough to conclude if I had ADD, right?

Next, does insurance cover trips to ADD doctors? And psychologists? This might be a bit out of topic, but I'm going to ask anyway. I think I also have anxiety problems so I was thinking if insurance would help me cover therapists' costs?

Just started looking at the prospect of getting insurance for my supposed (?) conditions. I found this http://www.medibank.com.au/. Is anyone under them? I was also wondering if you can tell me about your insurance covers that would help cut down costs on ADD doctors and/or psychologists.

Thank you so much for your time :)

Response to Coffee makes me sleepy

Hi, Coffee always made me sleepy and sick to my stomach as well. I mentioned it in passing to my doctor after seeing her for anxiety and it was as though a lightbulb went off in her head. So.....There does seem to be a correlation with the ADHD. Medical visits and therapy sessions are covered under the anxiety codes. I'm not sure about the ADHD coverage, but as you keep researching the two can exist together (comorbid) or the anxiety can be a symptom of the ADHD. I'm happy that you are so young and making these discoveries! Good luck. Jen

Try to differentiate first...

Seeing that anxiety can look like ADHD. I would start in managing that. Then, if other symptoms persist, then look at the ADHD. http://www.askdreric-schoolpsychologist.blogspot.com
