does it get better or easier?

My son is now in his first year of high school and he has lost some long time friendships but he has established new ones. I believe this is largely in part to finding his desire and love for music/guitar. I think all kids have to find something that motivates them and improves their self esteem. I would encourage your son to try to find something he enjoys doing.

I have always overcompensated for my son, but I realize that he has to stand on his own two feet someday and become a productive member of our society. If they fail, we must let them fail, friendships, first job, etc. We can only hope that they will learn from each life lesson.

My son does have an individual education plan and gets help at school keeping him on track. I am very grateful that he got this assistance in his high school years.

I do believe that maturity will make things a bit easier, but I also believe that this handicap will give him struggles in every aspect of his life (dating, working, driving, etc.). As parents we just have to give them the support they need to get through each hurdle.
