Issues with Focalin XR

My 10 year old has been on Focalin XR for about 2 years. And it is supposed to last 8 hours. It doesn't. He will take it at 7:30 and by 12:30 he is done with it. He will get another short acting pill of regular focalin in the afternoon at 3 but that doesn't help him between the hours of 12:30 to 3pm. Anyone know if we should try another medication and if so which one. We tried Daytrana and he doesn't like the way the patch feels. It did work great for him. Any other suggestions?

Focalin XR

Our Dr. just gave our son permission to take another Focalin XR 10mg at noon after having had his first dose (10mg)at 8:00. I do not yet know how this will work or how this will affect him in the evening as we are still waiting for the new script to come by mail. It might be worth asking your Dr. about.

focalin xr

My son has been taking it for 2 years now. We found it wears off after 5 hours so we added another dose. He takes 10mg at 7:30am and a 20mg dose at 1pm (our worst times is later afternoon) and it's out of his system completely at bedtime. This has been a great drug for us, no side effects except weight loss.
