Has anyone noticed a problem with their children's Concerta?

Is anyone else on Concerta (not generic) noticing a decrease in effectiveness of their last one or two refills? My two daughters (ages 9 & 10) take 36 mg of Concerta daily, but for the last several weeks they're behaving as though they're not on meds at all. Knowing their growth patterns as I do - it's not that they've grown so much that their meds need to be tweaked. And I watch them swallow the medication each morning.

Our pharmacist informed me that Ortho-McNeil changed manufacturers a couple months ago and I'm wondering if something has changed. Has anyone else noticed a problem with their Concerta?

changes with concerta

we are having issues. My son (8 1/2 yrs) has been on concerta 54 and has been doing WONDERFULY until the last refill. We got a new prescription filled & started on Monday. since then his teacher keeps telling me that he has TOTALLY regressed. like he isn't on any meds. I called the pharmacist and they should be getting in a new batch from a different manufactuer on Monday. This is baffeling to me. It could be a coiencedence but i just don't know.

yes..

My 8 1/2 year old son has been on 18mg of Conncerta since November and was a changed boy by the very next day. He continued with absolutely beautiful behavior until last week. He has had a drastic change in his attention and focusing this week. I am wondering the same things: Is it a change in manufacturers,or, is his body getting used to this dosage and we need to up it..any suggestions would be a blessing. I am SO glad to be a new member of this community.

Concert

My 10yo was on 54mg Concerta - but our specialist has taken him off it and put him back on to Ritalin. BIG difference....we came to the conclusion that over the past 6-8 months Concerta hasn't been working properly.

Concerta Effectiveness

Yikes!! I take 54mg Concerta daily and have been for the last 5 years with wonderful results. After reading this post, I have tried to 'pay attention' and focus on how I have been doing. Seems like I have been struggling lately with staying focused and motivated but thought it was just "me" and other circumstances. Anyone know how to go about finding out if/when we can expect our old concerta to be back in the pharmacy? Is there more than one manufacture? Is this new company nationwide?

Concerta +?

My 11 yr old takes 54 mg, and when it stopped working his doctor added 2 mg Tenex (filled as generic Guanfacine). It has worked very well, for over a year. Apparently this blood pressure medicine has been used since the early 90's for this and has been used with children. He used to add 10mg Ritalin and the end of the school day, since Concerta's effects wore off in 8 hrs, but as he got older we didn't neede this anymore. Also, during allergy season, my son can't take Zyrtec. It completely makes the Concerta ineffective for him, but a children's liquid allergy medicine (Equate) works and doesn't cause sleepiness so he takes it befofre school. Track everything that's going on and communicate with the doctor. Good luck.

Concerta

My son was put on Concerta in K and it worked wonderful for a while but the doctor kept increasing the dose. In the middle of 1st grade he started acting like he wasn't taking any medication. In fact, it was worse than ever. He couldn't sleep and was out of control at school. I took him to the doctor and we started him on Aderall. At the directions of the doctor I gave him 10 mg that evening when he was literally running circles around the house and all of a sudden fell on the couch and was out for the night. He is in 7th grade now and is on Vyvanse, which is wonderful. It lasts longer during the day and I haven't noticed any side-effects. Concerta seems to run its course and ends up causing more harm than good.

Concerta problems

My 11 year old son started on Concerta 2 1/2 years ago and has had quite a few dosage increases. At this point, I am getting daily calls from the school saying that he is out of control and they do not know what to do with him, and my son is begging for an increase in his dosage again! He says he feels that it is not working, and he is embarrassed that he keeps getting in trouble and cannot control his impulsivity. He is taking 45 mg now, but we are seeing the doctor to have it increased this week. It seems like it works for a while, and then we have to increase it again. I don't know how many times we can increase it without causing any more problems!

Watch for Generic

Last summer when I went to refill my son's Concerta I was told there was a generic available now which is infinitely cheaper than the name brand Concerta. I decided to try it, though the pharmacist had warned me that he was aware of it not working as well or differently as the original. Since it was the summer, I figured that it was worth trying. Well, it was like he wasn't on meds at all. The next refill (right before school started again) I made sure to get the original and things are back on track. Maybe you've been given a generic without being aware of it? I haven't noticed anything different since he's been back on the original. We had a refill in January and it seems okay.

comcerta problems

Well, there seems to be an issue with Concerta. My 9 year old has been taking 36 mg and I can't tell he's on anything when we're all together on the weekends.( I do give it to him 7 days a week) I'm going to ask his teacher if she's noticed any difference at school with his attention. So far she's not said anything but I can tell when he's at home.

concerta problems

My son is 8 1/2 and he is on 45mg and for the last 2 refills we have had alot of issues at home and at school. I talked to the doctor about it but she just suggests going on a higher dosage. Since i see so many other people are having problems maybe i just need to switch him from concerta to something else.

concerta

Hi my daughter has severe adhd and she is 13 and she has had this issue with concerta, and most of the adhd meds. Their bodies and hormones change and then the med seems ineffective. Just keep having to try different meds and you will probably have to change again. Unfortunately meds aren't down to a science and a one size fits all. Good luck,

concerta

I had to quit taking it.It made me throw up as well as being more depressed.I switched over to Adderall and Wellbutrin and that helped for a bit.I haven't been on my meds in a quite a few years, but am thinking of getting back on them since I'm in college.
