Late AGAIN!?

It seems like I am constant late for work. Well, I guess it is more like...late for everything. I was diagnosed with ADHD as an adult, and never had the assistance the kids have these days. Is anyone else having timeliness issues? Is being late a big thing with ADHD?

getting to places/work on time is a major part of the battle

You bet! It's a constant source of stress. I don't have any great all the time solution figured out but. I know I have a timer set on my cell that goes off 2 hours before work starts. I have to stop whatever I'm doing no matter what and get ready for work. I have another timer set to leave an entire hour before work because even though it's only supposed to take 25 minutes to get there...it's just too risky. I have a bag of projects I can work on any I choose to once I'm at my work desk or if I get there way early, I sometimes sit in the car for a little bit...but I have to set a timer.

I set a timer for my breaks/lunch at work too. 2 minutes before break "ends." I've started jotting a quick sticky note about where I stopped on my "projects"...somehow it eases the angst of having to let go. Speak of the devil...my phone reminder says..get ready for work NOW!

You Bet I'm Late!!!

I like the timer idea of the previous post! I use Outlook reminders for events. But, getting ready to go anywhere is a hassle, and I seldom arrive early or on time. My problem is that I see something that needs to be done and lose track of time, maybe keep coming back in the house for "one more thing" (I have an hour's drive to work) or stop and gas up. What works sometimes (I tend to get out of the habit, too) is to keep household chores for after work, after dinner, or on the weekends. I seem to have more physical energy in the morning and tend to do laundry, run the dishwasher, look for a lost book, get the mail together, so name it....everything except getting ready for work. Then, when I only have a little time left, I rush to do the normal things necessary to get to work. Then, I end up running late. So, if possible, I try to run the dishwasher and washing machine after work/work-out, and get gas on the way home. I have a better chance of getting to where I'm going on time. Oh, yeah, and (for me) stay off the computer in the morning. Good luck!

Ways to not be late

Excellent question. Yes, lateness is a constant problem for me, and I almost lost a job over it once. What I do now is estimate drive time, add 20 or 30 minutes extra for traffic (or an hour depending on length of trip), and set a couple of kitchen timers 15-30 minutes before I have to leave. I forbid myself from starting anything not related to getting ready to leave. I might lay out clothes the night before, and stage everything I have to take with me next to the door (or in the car). I take knitting or a book to read if I'm early. I sometimes forget to eat lunch before an appointment, so I keep food bars or nuts in the car. I've enjoyed the relaxed feeling that comes with being on the way in the car with time to spare, something I used to never experience! Best of luck.
