GOT ANY SUGGESTIONS???????
I have 2 children both with ADHD,one of which has severe anxiety issues. My almost 10 year old was put on Adderall XR 5mg at 6 1/2, after much agonizing, and within 1 hour turned into this beautiful, happy child!!!!!!! We were completely amazed how it worked & he finally liked himself and the fact that he could control himself better because he was more relaxed. After close to 2 years on Adderall I couldn't stand to see him not eating as much as he should so we switched to Strattera 25 mg about 9 months ago. It works for him, not as great as Adderall, but we'll take it. He can still focus in school, he eats and he's happy has now gained 11 pounds.
My 6 year old is another story and we are at a stand still with him at this point. We have tried Adderall cried for 3 days straight, went to Prozac worked for 2 1/2 months then the aggression started up again, added Ritalin in for about 3 weeks then that went out the window because he went back to biting his arms (black & blue) in frustration again, stayed on Prozac for 3 months with good results once again the agitation, biting, rages all set back in, added Abilify to the mix for 3 months completely went off the wall & out of his mind from that!!!!! Since this past September have tried the Daytrana patch no good, Zoloft (which I take also) no good... We started Intuniv 3 weeks ago, going up 1mg a week is now on his 3rd day of 3mg & sitting here biting his arm once again because he is frustrated over a game!!!!! I was told & have read that it can take 5 weeks to kick in properly.
Meanwhile, in the process of titrating I have been "given suggestions" by his school that for the safety of all involved he needs to be either hospitalized until regulated, kept at home or moved to a different setting. We just don't know what direction to go in anymore. He's frustrated, we are frustrated. We can't find anything that works!!!!!!! He does seem calmer on the Intuniv so we are going with that for now at least getting him up to therapeutic dosage. He cannot take stimulants at all as they send him in a lunatic frenzy. His anxiety is debilitating & that's where the our biggest problem is we can't get anything to work on it!!!!!!!!
So, that is our story, thanks for listening maybe I can get some good ideas from you guys going through the same issues.
