GOT ANY SUGGESTIONS???????

I have 2 children both with ADHD,one of which has severe anxiety issues. My almost 10 year old was put on Adderall XR 5mg at 6 1/2, after much agonizing, and within 1 hour turned into this beautiful, happy child!!!!!!! We were completely amazed how it worked & he finally liked himself and the fact that he could control himself better because he was more relaxed. After close to 2 years on Adderall I couldn't stand to see him not eating as much as he should so we switched to Strattera 25 mg about 9 months ago. It works for him, not as great as Adderall, but we'll take it. He can still focus in school, he eats and he's happy has now gained 11 pounds.

My 6 year old is another story and we are at a stand still with him at this point. We have tried Adderall cried for 3 days straight, went to Prozac worked for 2 1/2 months then the aggression started up again, added Ritalin in for about 3 weeks then that went out the window because he went back to biting his arms (black & blue) in frustration again, stayed on Prozac for 3 months with good results once again the agitation, biting, rages all set back in, added Abilify to the mix for 3 months completely went off the wall & out of his mind from that!!!!! Since this past September have tried the Daytrana patch no good, Zoloft (which I take also) no good... We started Intuniv 3 weeks ago, going up 1mg a week is now on his 3rd day of 3mg & sitting here biting his arm once again because he is frustrated over a game!!!!! I was told & have read that it can take 5 weeks to kick in properly.

Meanwhile, in the process of titrating I have been "given suggestions" by his school that for the safety of all involved he needs to be either hospitalized until regulated, kept at home or moved to a different setting. We just don't know what direction to go in anymore. He's frustrated, we are frustrated. We can't find anything that works!!!!!!! He does seem calmer on the Intuniv so we are going with that for now at least getting him up to therapeutic dosage. He cannot take stimulants at all as they send him in a lunatic frenzy. His anxiety is debilitating & that's where the our biggest problem is we can't get anything to work on it!!!!!!!!

So, that is our story, thanks for listening maybe I can get some good ideas from you guys going through the same issues.

Sorry to hear....

Hi there, of course my situation is different than yours, but then again it is the same. My daughter is 14 now, but we have been getting treatment for her since she was 3 years old. She has ODD, PDD, and ADHD. We have been on a variety of medications from Concerta to one other one and I can't remember the name of it and for her focus stimulant and now we are on Focalin XR in the morning and we are on Focalin after school. We are also on abilify, clonodine which is the best thing in the world - as it "smooths out the rough edges", she is on Namenda which is technically an alzheimers drug and she is also on zoloft. it sounds like she is on so many medicines but each drug does something specific for her personality. One helps her make decisions better. One helps her focus better for school. One helps her have remorse and actually feel sad and sorry as she did not have the ability to do that before. I am not sure if I am helping you or not. I guess I just wanted to send this note along to let you know that there are many many other medication choices out there and if the dr you are with is not satisfying you then try another dr maybe. W e had to move on when she was 5 and found another dr that worked with us until we found a "recipe" that worked for her. She is doing really well now. We also have her on teh Mental Health Waiver. And she is doing really a lot better in school now too, but that is because we are not handling her education by ourselves. Look into something like that too. If I can be of any more help please let m eknow. God Bless! Carole Hamill

Criminal

I actually had trouble believing what I just read.

You currently have that 14 year-old child on a powerful stimulant/DRI, SSRI, an anti-hypertensive, an "adjunctive" and NMDA receptor antagonist. Essentially a chemical cocktail of powerful drugs which all either magnify or counteract the psychotropic effects of the other.

Perhaps your liberal physician can prescribe something for this poor child's parents that may help them feel sorry or remorseful for the criminal acts they've committed upon their child.
