new to adhd and need some help.

Hi, i have an almost 7yr old boy who was diagnosed around last xmas school break with adhd. We are kinda at a loss as to how to help him in the best ways. I kinda feel like we are making him a guinea pig with medication. I hate that feeling. We have tried atleast a half dozen. He is currently on 3mg of Intuniv. We still seem to be battling with aggression. Just last week, he was suspended from school for one full day...SUSPENDED...1ST GRADE!!! Apparently another child in line was talking and he didnt like it... so he PUNCHED him in the "private region". I couldnt believe he went that far, and watching him be escorted from the school to us by the principal infront of other parents.. ...embarrassing. I am pretty much going to be a single mom, as my husband is a new over the road truck driver. Any ideas on helping my lil man gain some self control with anger issues... or impulsivness? I have signed him up for counselling, but he has yet to go to the initial appointment. ...THANKS IN ADVANCE =) Ash

New To ADHD

We're not new to ADHD but wow, every day is unique as you're finding out! I've got 4 kids but only the 4th one is ADHD and it's pretty severe. I came to the end of my rope just about a year ago and began counseling with an excellent psychologist in our area. I not only own but read about 10 books on the subject and recently began blogging to not just vent but try to release some of the stress. My blogging experience is short but so are the blogs - easy to read quickly and hopefully offer hope to another mom, that you're not alone. We're in this together and I have been there...still there!! www.charlottesadhdweb.blogspot.com I hope it helps you. Charlotte

new to adhd

Hi, and thanks for the reply. I too have started to blog. Dont have any followers, but its still nice to just post on there no matter what. I didnt give the site to family so that i can vent freely, as alot of the times they create the most stress in me. I met with the counselor this week to give them the inside scoop on what is going on with him. I really think that the counselling will help us as a family, adn him individually.

i'm in the same boat

my son was just diagnosed in august and he just turned 6 last month. he's had alot of problems at school.. was so excited for him to be in kindergarden but now not so sure! he's brought a metal nail file to school and got suspended for a week, bites other classmates, steals, and causes abit of disruption in his class. i got lucky this year cause his teachers kids are also adhd so he knows what's going on and how to handle my son better.. my sister in law is pretty understanding, expecially since her son's also diagnosed the same. but other than that, it's just me and my husband in the "support" group. mother and father in law are very old school and dont believe anythings wrong. "boys will be boys" is what i get told. one of my big worries is my daughter. she's 7 months right now and i'm trying to figure out how to get her not to do the things her brother does... 'monkey see monkey do' and that's so not in my favor! lol..

anyways, i'm glad to see i'm not the only one at a loss....

Same boat...

My son is 3 and was diagnosed on his 3rd birthday last January. It has been a constant battle. He's been expelled from 9 daycares, and each of those had multiple suspensions first. And I'm a single parent living 2,000 miles from any family. I know exactly how you're feeling. My son takes a combination of Metadate and Methylin and those seem to have good progress, we're just trying to work out the dosage.
