Ritalin

I went to see my doc on Monday and he prescribed me with Ritalin until my Strattera becomes available. I can't remember what dosage that he said that I should be on, but I was prescribed 10mg tablets that are suppose to be taken twice a day. I have noticed that my attention does drift while on it not as bad when I am off of it. I really don't have a comparison to Strattera because I quit before it was able to take affect. I have a couple of questions....Does Strattera work better than Ritalin? I'm thinking of upping my dosage to 30mg per day. Basically, 3 tablets spaced out through the day. I've been reading about Ritalin and I like the chemical make of it and think that it could work, but I want to work with Strattera since it's less habit forming and non-stimulant. Has anyone been prescribed more than one ADD drug to find out which one works for them? I would really like some advice. Thank You

It is very personal...

Not only effectiveness to each drug very individualized, but so are side-effects. That is why a good doc, great communication, and lot of questions are essential.

I have been on tons of different types of stimulants, but not any of the non-stimulant ADD meds. No medication is better than another when it comes to the common ADD meds, it is all about how you respond to it. My advise would be to try the Strattera for the recommended amount of time and if you don't think you're getting a good result, talk to your doctor about moving on to something else. I've tried five different ADD stimulants and they've all affected me slightly different. It's worth trying what's out there.
