GED Testing Accommodation Form - question...

Hi there,

How are you. I was wondering of someone might be able to provide some feedback to me about the following issue: recently, my wife found to have significant learning disabilities as well as ADHD. She was tested and diagnosed by a well-known doctor who specializes in both of these conditions. She is scheduled to take the GED test this December, and unfortunately, we do not have the GED “Learning and Other Cognitive Disorders - Testing Accommodations Request Form" filled out and ready to submit. The aforementioned doctor had attempted to fill out the form, but then told us that they – referring to the GED officials, I suppose - will probably require additional testing, a report in their own format. I am not thrilled with his response, but I really do not have the time or energy to engage in an argument with this individual. Instead, I simple must move forward and go about trying to get this very important form completed. . I was wondering if anyone could suggest the best way to move forward with this process? We need to get this form filled out asap, but at same time, our financial resources are very limited at the time. Are there any online resources where I could find out how to get this form completed? Is there any organization that you suggest I phone?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Many thanks, rbracch

They seem reasonable...

I have reviewed both the ADHD form. http://www.acenet.edu/Content/NavigationMenu/ged/test/Take/ACC_2RequestforTestingAccommodation_ADD_ADHD.pdf

and the learning disability form http://www.acenet.edu/Content/NavigationMenu/ged/test/Take/ACC_4RequestforTestingAccommodationLandCD.pdf

I have to say that they do not look that unreasonable. In fact, the ADHD form seems pretty light considering the amount of Dr. Buy-a-diagnoses that try to help people work the system.

Their requirements are pretty much minimum expectations for a proper assessment and diagnosis that I would expect to see.

They are legally and ethically allowed to make sure that the diagnosis meets a minimum level of standards. http://www.acenet.edu/Content/NavigationMenu/ged/test/Take/Accommodations_Disab.htm

What sort of assessment did your doctor use to diagnose you?

tests that were used for ADHD evaluation...

Hi Dr. Eric,

Thanks so much for responding to my post. To answer your question – the doctor used the following tests to evaluate my wife: 1.) Kaufman Brief Inteligence Test, 2nd Edition (K-BIT 2) 2.) Wide Range Achievement Test 4 3.) Conners’ Adult ADHD Self and Observer Rating Scale (CAARS-L) 4.) Human Figure Drawings 5.) Clinical Interview 6.) Review of Records

Thanks again, rbracch

That should cover it...

The tests that were given should cover it. I think you are fine for the ADHD form, but may have problems on the learning disability form. The SLD form requires that they use the specific tests, the ADHD does not. The KBIT and WRAT better serve as screening tools than comprehensive exams, but those tests are in the same family as the examples that they approved.

For example, the KBIT stands for "Kaufman Brief Intelligence Test" and is 1/5 to 1/4 as comprehensive as the full Kaufman Adolescent and Adult Intelligence Test. However, the portions that it covers are the ones with the highest correlation to overall intelligence. Therefore, it gives is a relatively accurate estimate of intelligence, but it is not a good diagnostic on individual psychological processing skills.
