ADD diagnosis problem

Many years ago I was diagnosed with ADD, but I can not recall the doctors name who did that original testing on me. Now I am much older and have returned to University to finish my degree. I can get assistance because of my ADD, except they want an official ADD report. I thought I could get one somewhere, but first of all, I dont have insurance, and I'm not working right now. The University actually as a psychologist department where they even do ADD testing of children and adults. Problem is that even being a registered student, they require $300 just to get tested for ADD!! Now as important as this is most would think I would just do it, and if I had the money I would. But, and there is always a but. I'm disabled, thanks to an accident a few years back. My medication cost is around $400 a month, I have my own house ( purchased pre accident, ad pre divorce -get to that in a second) so I have house payments, after the accident my wife left us, making me a single Dad of 2 very wonderful younger daughters. Ages 8 and 10. So like I said, Unemployed, disabled, divorced, very limited income, no insurance, family obligations, and they want $300 for a test. My question is.... Would anyone know of a way I could somehow get tested again for ADD in the St. Louis Missouri area, that I could possibly afford? I understand that the advantages and help offered at the University is really great, and well worth the having to jump through all the hoops they make you. Its just I dont have the money to buy into that first and most important hoop.

Thanks Dan

Ouch!

After my insurance kicked in, my $3000 assessment cost me $800 in 1995. $300 sounds pretty darned low.

I can only think of several options.

Some thoughts.

Did insurance pay for your original diagnosis? Even though you don't have a policy anymore, they may be able to provide the info on the doctor.

Does your school offer student health insurance coverage? In MA, all universities have to offer (for a price that get added to tuition bill) health insurance.

Check for resources through local disability rights advocacy groups, you may find some pro-bono or financial assistance options. http://www.moadvocacy.org/ http://www.familyvillage.wisc.edu/comm/missouri.html

Finally, check with local hospitals and/or university psych programs / clinics for two possibilities. 1. Pro-bono or low-cost assessments as part of student internship/practica. (Although for $300, this may already be the case.) 2. Free assessments that are included as part of volunteering for research.
