Caffeine

I've heard that caffeine can sometimes help some children with ADD. Can anyone give any feedback on this?

caffeine not recommended as ADHD treatment

Dr. Larry Silvers answered this question in an "Ask the Expert" piece on ADDitudeMag.com. He said,

"Some studies suggest that consuming lots of caffeine can improve focus, but there's no evidence to suggest that caffeine affects hyperactivity or impulsivity. The amount of caffeine you'd need to consume to affect AD/HD would probably cause agitation (not to mention spending too much time in the bathroom).

I don't recommend drinking caffeinated beverages (or taking caffeine-containing pills) as a way to treat AD/HD."

Giving it to my son now.

I read a lot of good feedback on caffeine as an alternative to perscription drugs. I just started giving my 10 year old 100mg in pill form and it's been a night and day miracle. I was givign him Ginko Baluba (sp?) and it made minor changes, but no where near enough. I thought I'd give the caffeine a shot and it's been wonderful w/no side effects as of yet.

100mg is the same as 5 mg of ritalin. I plan on talking to my sons pediatrician soon about this form of treatment. I really do NOT want to put him on perscritpion drugs.

This works for me.

I'm a 32yr old mother of three with adult adhd, inattentive type. I have found a great combination of Wellbutrin, Redbull, and super B-complex vitamins. I like coffee too. I used to get this tea from celestial seasoning called Morning Thunder. It has a different form of caffeine called mate'. I cant find it anymore. I've tried all the energy drinks and you know what they say...Redbull gives you wings...
