going back to school

I'm pretty sure I have ADD/ADHD (working on finding a therapist now who can recommend a doctor). I've decided to go back to school - for medicine, but my undergraduate gpa was nothing to write home about. I've recently been taking pre-reqs for particular programs I'm interested in and am pleased to find that I can now study effectively. How would I address my not so great undergrad grades? Would i need to get a 2nd bachelor's degree to cancel out the first? Would doing well in a master's program (before applying to medical school) work? I'm getting up there, so don't feel like I have a lot more time to waste. If I can graduate from medical school in the next 6 years, I feel it'll be worth it. that gives me 2 years to finish a 2nd bachelor's or to finish a master's degree. I'm confident in my ability to do very well given my more recent school performance (this while working full-time - so how much better will I do if I'm just concentrating on school?!).

Thanks

Time for some visits

Going to med school sounds like something you're really enthusiastic about.

If I were you, I would go to the source: go visit the admissions offices of several med schools, and pose the question to them. You will get very real and accurate answers from people who process applications ...

If you can't visit, set up a phone call ... do it in "off-season" .... before they are frantically pouring through applications ...

good luck

@jillierenae

Thanks for your response! I'm not considering a postbac because I have been spending the past 3 years taking all of the science classes , so postbac would be redundant for me. I was wondering whether the recent classes is enough to override my less-than-stellar performance as an undergrad (well over 20 years ago).

I intend to follow advice of previous poster and just ask the schools I'm interested directly. But more information (especially from anyone who is familiar with medical school (ostepathy) admissions!) is always appreciated.

Get a consult from the Office of Disability Services to the prog

Title says it all. These are the people that work with these specific programs, and they can give you the best assessment on where you stand for admission and retention.

It hadn't occurred to me to do that. Thanks so much! (checked out your blog - also very helpful - thanks!)
