like father like son?

my son will be 4 in sept and his father and his fathers mum are constantly telling me hes got add he needs tablets. his father has add and his brother and takes dexies for it. we moved back to be with his father a year and a half ago and its been since then that hes been more over active and doesnt listen when told to do things. he and me lived on our own and had a full social life with swimming lessons, kids gym and his friends and we havent had any of that since we moved back. i think hes bored. but because his dad has it theyre convinced my son has it. he hasnt slept well since the night he was born and is still up until 11 most nights. are there ways of working out if he has got add or adhd without having to go to a dr?

it could be yes that if his dad has it, he can, but whatever you do, do not give any tablets without the doctor's consent!! if i were you, i'd leave it to see how he does in school. if it's interfering with his school work, then yes, i'd go to the doctor and get him diagnosed, but not simply because his dad has/had ADD. it's only natural that if he's bored he'd be more hyper, so try to find things that he enjoys and do them together. hope to help :)

Rule-outs

Although there is a genetic link, don't rule out the impact of being 4-years-old in a house filled with ADD!

Ditto on the not giving meds without a doctors supervision.
