congrats on new posibilities regarding diagnosis & meds
Hang in there, it is quite a process to figure out what medication(s), dosage strenghts, etc. work best for any particular individual. I am an adult w/ADHD diagnosis, (currently receiving M.D. treatment and prescribed Vyvanse for approx 1 year now, ) AND also parent of child w/Diagnosis ADHD, also currently prescribed Vyvanse, though we both take different strengths. Lot's of trials with other meds. over the years, Vyvanse has particularily had minimal, if any of the "as the medicine wears off/side effects", frequently referred to as "rebound," for us. Perhaps, one of the most important things we made sure to do was, even if not hungry, making sure there was a carefully regulated intake of protein, good carbs, throughout the day. A protein bar and healthy drink made all the difference for my son who frequently felt he was running out of steam, moody- he wasn't fulfilling his energy needs, (v.s. thinking it was a med. thing). Trust me, we're not health food fanatics, but can't stress enough that even a handful of nuts, a yogurt, etc, keeping a steady supply of energy fuel really helped us stabilize moods and be proactive about the common side effect of most stimulants-decreased appetites. Our weights have been pretty stable over the years. And lastly, our personal experience has been Vyvanse hasn't managed our ADHD symptoms, focusing abilities, etc. QUITE as long, (up to 13 hrs.), as Shire, (maker of Vyvanse) has in information data/ads, BUT (I know for example), some people report that even taking an aspirin, antibiotic, whatever.,it makes them "tired', gives side effects.And/or feel the effects of a medicine longer then someone else. It took quite some time for us (and our doctors), to fine tune the best fit for our meds./treatment. You're doing agreat thing trying to keep track of the benefits you notice, (how long, etc.) and issues that seem negative or unresolved. Reporting these to your support team/medical providers will help them be helpful to you all the more. Good luck and hang in there!
