Just diagnosed & prescribed Vyvanse...

hello, I'm new to the board and new to this entire thing. I'm 27 year old stay at home mother and wife from Chicago & going to school online for real estate.I started therapy last week and after talking about the 7 different things ive gone to school for and never finsihed, along with being tired all day, spacing out alot, reading something while thinking of something else and not understanding what i just read...etc. she sent me to a psychiatrist to diagnose me (since she is only a therapist and cannot give out meds). They agreed with my therapist and diagnosed me with innatentive add. I am actually happy about this (i know that sounds wierd) but my whole life i (along with everyone around me) just thought that i was lazy and had no "drive" to do or finish anything. Now I know that there was actually something wrong with me and I'm so happy I can finally, in a way, start life over and organize my life for once. I was diagnosed with inattentive ADD 4 days ago (6-21-10) and I was put on Vyvanse (30mg). So far I've had very positive results. It's only been 3 days but I feel as if it wears off earlier than they said. 1st day i had kieser roll, 2nd day chicken, 3day burger for breakfast along with my vyvanse (i dont eat breakfast foods lol) all around 9am...then anywhere from 4-6pm I get tired, cranky and feel like a scatter brain all over again. I see my therapist on the 28th (Monday) and the Psychiatrist on July 19th (he wants to see if he needs to up or lower my dose and see how i like the meds)..so I guess I will just wait it out until I see him again and mention my symptoms to him.

I am completely new to all of this so any help or advice you can give me about ADD or anyone who has or is on Vyvanse please let me know...I'm all ears!!

Kristy xoxo

congrats on new posibilities regarding diagnosis & meds

Hang in there, it is quite a process to figure out what medication(s), dosage strenghts, etc. work best for any particular individual. I am an adult w/ADHD diagnosis, (currently receiving M.D. treatment and prescribed Vyvanse for approx 1 year now, ) AND also parent of child w/Diagnosis ADHD, also currently prescribed Vyvanse, though we both take different strengths. Lot's of trials with other meds. over the years, Vyvanse has particularily had minimal, if any of the "as the medicine wears off/side effects", frequently referred to as "rebound," for us. Perhaps, one of the most important things we made sure to do was, even if not hungry, making sure there was a carefully regulated intake of protein, good carbs, throughout the day. A protein bar and healthy drink made all the difference for my son who frequently felt he was running out of steam, moody- he wasn't fulfilling his energy needs, (v.s. thinking it was a med. thing). Trust me, we're not health food fanatics, but can't stress enough that even a handful of nuts, a yogurt, etc, keeping a steady supply of energy fuel really helped us stabilize moods and be proactive about the common side effect of most stimulants-decreased appetites. Our weights have been pretty stable over the years. And lastly, our personal experience has been Vyvanse hasn't managed our ADHD symptoms, focusing abilities, etc. QUITE as long, (up to 13 hrs.), as Shire, (maker of Vyvanse) has in information data/ads, BUT (I know for example), some people report that even taking an aspirin, antibiotic, whatever.,it makes them "tired', gives side effects.And/or feel the effects of a medicine longer then someone else. It took quite some time for us (and our doctors), to fine tune the best fit for our meds./treatment. You're doing agreat thing trying to keep track of the benefits you notice, (how long, etc.) and issues that seem negative or unresolved. Reporting these to your support team/medical providers will help them be helpful to you all the more. Good luck and hang in there!

Yeah I've tried it

Hi, I was on vyvnase for a while and went up the dosages all the way to 70 mg, the problem was that it took about an hour sometimes 2 hours to work and it only seemed to work 10 hours. In those 8 hours there was two hour gaps where it wasn't effective and they effective again. I ended up going back to adderall again since it was more effective its just the side effects of adderall that suck

Vyvanse is golden

Adderal is kaka. Im on the 70mg vyvanse and since I cant afford two doses a day, I take half in the morning and half at around 2 or so. Works great, but soon I'll be supplimenting a 50mg with a morning and evening dose of dexadrine. Stay away from the adderal, man. Its not much different than street tweak. For some reason, although its just time release dextroamphetamine, Vyvanse acts as an anti-depressant for me and gives me a real "can do" outlook on life.
