CONCERTA versus GENERIC MEDICATION
BE VERY CAREFUL IF YOU CHANGE CONCERTA BY GENERIC MEDICATION
I have two children with ADD & ADHD and they are both on Concerta; my daughter (ADD) since 2006 and my son (ADHD) since 2007. This medication is wonderful for both of my children and I see a huge improvement in their behaviour (and in our life) by using this medication. OK they are very expensive but my children’s health is priceless…
Last month, my pharmacist gave me generic medication for my ADHD son instead of the Concerta. Within 48 hours my son has changed so much that he felt like a stranger for me. He was very hyperactive, arguing all the time, teasing and disagreeing with everybody, fighting constantly with his sisters and parents, screaming, etc. But, because many things are happening in our life lately I have been told that it was probably just a coincidence.
Three weeks ago it was the time to refill my ADD’s daughter medication. Same thing for her: generic instead of Concerta. Within a week my teen daughter became a rebellion, doing crisis on top of crisis, screaming most of the time, wasn’t eating and sleeping adequately, being isolated, , etc…. and worst of all a stranger to the rest of the family.
Before a drama arrives in our family, I decided to take charge of our destiny and said that was ENOUGH and I exchanged generic medication for Concerta. It is now 3 days for my son and the second day for my daughter and NEVER AGAIN I will try a generic medication. I don't know what it was exactly but it was worse than ever; it would have been the same thing if they would have stopped their medication. These generic medications mixed up so much our life that it will take a few more days (or weeks?) to try to live like before…
It may be good for some children but be very careful before to give generic to your child! From a mother who doesn't want you to have same "nightmare" as her!
