ADD adult in social settings

As a 72 year old ADDer who has recently moved to senior housing, I am overwhelmed. New social setting, constant social group contacts. I went to a dinner with 8 people in a restaurant with a TV with a sports event and a bar - distractions hitting me like a hammer. I got a headache and found myself talking LOUDLY about my own personal stuff. Did not like myself when I got home. NOW: I am so very thankful for all the new hints in ADDitude for adult social skills.

ADD Adult Social Skills

Thankful for ADDitudemag.com, also! I have helped a lot of people by just passing this website on to them after hearing about their struggles or their children's struggles. I am hoping to find more info here on finding a good doctor in CT that specializes in Adult A.D.D. for myself and my family members and friends. Holistic would be our preference.

Hope you have regrouped and are back to liking yourself. We are so so bombarded with loud, manipulative background noise everywhere: music in retail stores on too high volume, medical offices with TV and music blaring, trains w/ static announcements, gas stations w/ TV's running commercials loudly. I get into a sensory overload, I can't think or make decisions, then angry I can't change it, then really irritated and I want to be nasty to release my tension - I don't of course but it does take so much energy to redirect myself and calm myself. I feel your pain

SOCIAL SKILLS

I have messed up at work and in social settings so much of my life that i have no real friends . The thougt of putting my foot in my mouth one more time or messing up at work by not being able to slow down and not argue or notbeing able to focus is scaring me from even appling for a job. At 58 this is causing tremendess stress and financial loss. Iam on medication but have not been officaly diagnosed and meds are working but need counselling badly, some days are good when i can foget my financial concrns , but that dosent last long.

social skills

I have no social skills. My husband's family is very party-oriented and they are always having some kind of party for something or another. As a matter of fact, I have an engagement party tonight. I absolutely hate parties as I always feel out of place. I usually say something stupid and I cannot make small talk. My husband insists that I go so I can get out and "socialize". He won't accept the fact that these events are torture for me. Is this a common trait?
