Newly diagnosed and struggling

This is my first post. I'm a 54 year old woman and was just diagnosed with ADD in April, 2010. For years, I struggled with anxiety and depression and have been (and still am) medicated for those (Paxil and Klonopin). I was having big problems at work: interrupting people, talking incessantly, feeling unable to remember simple verbal instructions. My family dr started me on Concerta and at first I felt great. I could actually focus at work. Lately the big problem has been around 3 PM, when it wore off. I crash, to an emotional place that is extremely uncomfortable: very irritable and mad at the world, and very depressed, at a level lower than before I went on Concerta. The dr did give me short acting Ritalin to pick up the slack, but if I'd take that at 3 PM, I'd still crash at 6 PM. I saw the doc again this past week. He did give me a scrip for Vyvanse--I'd read that the wearing off period is much smoother. He said I need to get my meds evaluated by a p-doc.. I haven't seen one in about 3 years. I'm in northcentral PA and the local group of p-docs I was seeing since 1992 kept changing; their p-docs would leave and I'd hardly ever see the same one twice. Yes, there are others, but none who will accept my health insurance for about 100 miles. So I'm depressed and scared. I know I need this help, but my finances are limited. My stress level at work is really high right now since I'm on a project that needs to be completed ASAP, and for that I need to be able to think straight, consistently. Please, anyone who can give support, or has had a similar experience, I need to know I'm not going through this alone right now. kittyfiftyfive

Your not alone

hello, I read your story and I know what you mean, Before i got the right dose on my meds i went through the same thing. It's called the withdrawl peroid.. I didnt know that ADHD meds had those before i started taking them. I take adderall xr.. I am sorry that you are having a hard time with P- docs and insurence! The best thing to do is get your rest.. Do your breathing and remember my fellow adder things are not as bad as it seems to us at times. I find when i say things out loud it helps me focus better. IE. I tell my self to Focus on whatever it is at the time. It may sound very silly but that is one small thing that helps. Just pace yourself and take the time to sit and think about what your going to need before you start so your not wasting time making 100 trips around the house or place of employment gathering everything for your project.. I am stuggling with things at the moment because I am becoming aware of all my short comings with adhd that hasnt been clear to me all my life and being 32 i always wondered what was going on because i knew that i did things that wasnt proper, Liike interrupting, busy body. racing thoughts ect.. So sweetie no your not alone. Just take one thing at a time and allow for things that you know will take your extra time. try to learn your adhd ways. It is the only way to correct them, :) take care god bless
