Frustrated

...been living with my diagnosis for 10 years now & am so frustrated about the household projects that should have been done years ago, the need for organizational & time management support at work, the need for a coach that I can't afford, & the lack of support where I live...have no idea where to start or what to do...seems silly to have earned my Master's degree & to be licensed in 2 states in my profession, but to still feel so disillusioned by the ADHD...suggestions would be great!

frustrated

I feel you. For me it's even a challenge to recall the diagnosis and recognize the impact it's having on me -- until I spend hours "stuck" in some task in another zone, and then find I've missed doing the things I just wrote down in capital letters, prioritized, with a time schedule...

I don't know that gender really matters but you just reminded me to re-read Women With Attention Deficit Disorder by Sari Solden. It's one useful and inspiring book with stories of folks who -- overtime and with various kinds of help -- have overcome some of their ADHD frustrations and become much more productive. Maybe some of those stories and strategies will help you, too.

Godspeed. Hang in there.

Life is a mystery shopping bag; you don't know what you're going to get when you reach in. But keep reaching; who knows what prize life has yet in store?

Can't afford coaching

I don't mean to be glib, but when I read your post I thought, it sounds like you can't afford not to get a coach. Coaching can be expensive but here are three things to consider.

If you become more effective at managing your symptoms you may find that coaching will help pay for itself. Whether it's reducing late fees, avoiding spending due to lower stress levels, better drug management, or better time management, you may find that coaching improves your financial situation. It certainly helped with mine.

Secondly, coaching can often be reduced after the first couple of months. Many of the benefits I received were very early on in the process.

Finally, ask the coach if they'll work out a lower rate to start provided you will buy a certain number of sessions. Also shop around. The best coaches aren't necessarily the most expensive.

I wish you the best.
