just starting with ADHD medication

Hi!

I just started taking Adderall about two days ago. I notice a big difference in myself already. I am more motivated and the impulsivity feeling is gone (especially with overeating). I am not frustrated or emotional. I actually feel relaxed and the feeling of overwhelmed is gone. I am focusing so much better. I am actually able to read more then just a half of a page and I am not even struggling to get through a page at one sitting. I know when the medication is starting to where off by the fact I stuggle just to get through a page of the book I am reading right now "Deliverd from Distraction". When the med is working I am able to read chapter after chapter. Anyway let me get to the point of why I am posting this message. :) I do have a concern with taking Adderall.. my concern is that I am able to focus, maybe a little too much. I feel like while the med is working at its best I am unable to think about what I read or even fully remember, eventhough my understanding of what I read is still intact. Is the excess focus and lack of memory normal when first taking a stimuli? Do you think that because I am so used of my mind running on fast forward and thinking about a millions things at one time that I am just not used to focusing so much and I will get used to this new feeling? I am concerned because I have finally found the class of meds that I have noticed postive changes within myself and I would like to conutinue taking the med.

Thank you for responding!

Melinda

Did you get any answers to your Adderall question?

Did you? Let me know. I have been dealing with this for about 6 years and read a lot about it. I also have some side issues because of the impulsivity in my past. Relationships have been particulary a problem and it would be great to get a womens perspective. Women find other women to talk to real easy but for a guy its tough, especially since everyone is so cautious now a days. It would be great to chat more. Let me know, Dave

Adderall

Hi Dave, I forgot all about my question until I just read an e-mail stating someone responded to my post. I am getting used to the Adderall. When the medicine is working I actually feel fine and motivated to work out. My compusive, impulsivity to over eat is gone while the med is working. I take the short term Adderall which I take several times a day. I am more used to the focused feeling that I no longer feel super focused. I actually do not like taking meds, yet I would recommed stimuli meds to anyone with ADD. I am functioning so much better. I think the meds help with some addictions, although I have OCD and the meds do not help with my OCD...I am just glad that Adderall does not make my OCD worse. The benefits out way the side effects. I no longer have a strong urge of boredom and the feeling that no matter what I do I am just not satisfied disappears while the med is working. I am able to eat when I am hungry and stop when I am full. My thoughts are more relaxed to where I sleep better at night. Also while Adderall is working I don't feel frustrated and while driving I don't complain about the way people drive. I am more postive with my thinking. I still find I am procrastinating, but not as much as I do when I am off of the med. Adderall is not going to take all of my symptoms of ADD away,,the med is helping me function better so my mind isn't overwhlemed and consumed with doing everything at once and obtaining instant gratification. Are you taking any stimuli meds for your ADD?

Melinda

PS. Dr. Hallowell's book about ADD "Delivered from Distraction" was a good read.

I'm a newbie too

Hey Melinda! I know exactly what you mean! I was diagnosed literally 4 days ago and was put on Vyvanse (its in the adderall family) and I feel great! my only complaint is that it is supposed to last 13hrs and I only get around 7hrs...but I think its because I'm only on 30mg..so I prob just need my dose upped.
