9th grade boy refuses to do homework

Our 9th grader is very immature, yet intelligent. His behavior has resulted in stealing, lying, damaging furniture, and today--on Mother's Day--when I took his phone away for not doing homework and downloading porn (controls are on his account; I left my un-controlled account on and went to the store)--he ripped up my Mother's Day card. I need help, because this constant roller coaster is killing our family. Our 6th grade boy apologizes for everything and tiptoes arournd life. My husband and I barely speak. He is still in Scouts, some sports, and church. God forgive me, but often I just can't stand to be around my own son. Do I let him go?

Same problem with 9th grade teen girl

I don't have any anwers because I am having the same problems with my 9th grader. I adopted my niece after her mother (my sister) died four years ago so i don't have the full history other parents do. She has fairly severe ADHD, plus learning disabilities. She started high school off well but has been in a spiral for the last several weeks. She's angry most of the time, started smoking a few months ago and has decided that attending classes is optional. She lies about most everything (not just the forgetful kind common with ADHD) and I can't get her to eat regular meals. If it were up to her, she'd do nothing but watch videos on YouTube and post to Facebook. I'm limiting her Internet access at home now in an effort to get her to develop other interests.

She's under the care of both a psychicatrist (for meds) and a therapist but she engages as minimally as possible. I'm really at my wits' end and am also wondering if I should get let go and hope she'll straighten herself out.
