25 y.o. ADD issues

Good Morning,

Trish I feel your pain. I have a 25 y.o. that is tiring me out. He finally lives on his own, with a lot of help from us. Can't keep his own finances straight..is unmotivated but would love to sleep all day. He was diagnosed with ADD in the 2nd grade and took Ritalin until he was about 19. He was set to go in the Army, they made him go off of his meds, so they could evaluate and then rejected him for the armed services. He hasn't been on meds since. Not always a good thing, his moods differ like someone that is bipolar. I have starte him on a supplement L-Tyrosine, which helps neurotransmitters to function better, it has amino acids in it that help the chemicals do what they are supposed to do. Will let you know how that works. We didn't like the affects of Ritalin much, but appreciated the overall job it did for him.

He has a part time job and is not even making enough to cover all of his bills on his own, is lazy to the point of lying when I give him tasks to do for his own benefit. I recently created a contract, since we are subsidizing his living on his own (living with us again is not an option), and the consequences that would happen if he doesn't start trying. He figures he has a roof, food, and all his possesions to keep him happy. I seriously just need someone to take over the daily job of motivating him, and dealing with the attitudes that come. Does anyone else have an adult child that has difficulty taking care of things? I need guidance on how to help him, without affecting my health and relationship with my husband.

Currently he is undergoing a Neurofeedback training, I praying to see results. A dear friend of mine sent to me the following links to review them and I was shock with the info in there. Take a look and you'll might be as shocked as I was.

My best wishes for you and your family,

You Did Not Mention Therapy?

Why not enroll him in therapy to discuss these issues? It can help unearth the reasons for his lack of motivation. Therapy generally does not work if you force it however....a therapist does not change anyone, they only help someone who wants to change.
