ADD Meds safe while nursing/pregnant?

Hi,

I'm new to this site but am trying to find out if there are any add meds out there that are safe to take while you are nursing or pregnant. I used to take Adderall before getting pregnant with my first child. It was amazing! I had to go off once I became pregnant and haven't been on any medication since. I am still nursing my daughter and am hoping to get pregnant again at some point this year. I am at the point where I think medication is becoming a must or my marriage will cease to exist. Does anyone know of a medication that I could take? Worst case scenario I can wean my daughter and plan to hold off on pregnancy so I can get back on track with the meds for a little while but I'd really prefer not to put my life on hold for this. I do need to get on something asap. Being off of medication is destroying me and my husband. Please help!

Obviously, you'll have to consult your doctor about this. This being said, my doc knows I nurse mornings and evenings, and prescribed me Ritalin LA, which is an 8-hour dose. Theoretically, my DS won't be exposed since he is at daycare during the hours that it would be in my body. So you may have some options.

Meds during pregnancy

There is a chapter on this topic in "Understanding Women with ADHD" by Kathleen Nadeau and Patricia Quinn which gives detailed information about the topic by drug.
