Hours of effectiveness/rebound (children only pls)

How many hours is your child's med working & which one are you using? We have tried several & now are using Ritalin LA 20mg & find it wears off in less than 12 hrs, maybe 10. And the rebound effect is the most severe we've seen so far. Do we use a short acting 4hr pill like Adderall when he comes home from school to get through the night? Vyvanse is longest lasting yet one of worst we tried for him w/ emotional disruptions.

Amphetamine Salts

I know that you will automatically think that it's meth and illegal. But I'm only 15 and I got diagnosed about a month or two ago. I got this medication about half a month later and they really work very well for me. I was diagnosed with the inattentive type of ADHD. It's a stimulant that will make your kid a little more hyper than usual (not that much). They'll be able to concentrate and you'll be able to keep their attention longer, they will do their chores and homework more frequently and their grades will pull up faster that ever. I got diagnosed about 3 days before school ended, but it helped a ton on my final exams. I'm now in summer school for my first semester of english because i got an F-. I can concentrate on anything the teacher says, no matter how tired or bored i am. I currently have a 99% in the class. I've only had that high of a grade on the first day of the class. It does sound insane to give this to your kid, but, trust me, they work almost instantly. Just don't let them take it any time near bedtime. They won't go to sleep if you do.

Focalin XR

I know that your post is kind of old and I hope that you have found what works for your child by now. I am interested in knowing what worked for you. Honestly I read what you wrote and wished that I was as lucky as you that your childs medication works for 10 hours. That is a miracle for me. My child is 6 years old and big for his age. 70 lbs + We started with a low dose of 5 mg focalin XR which didnt work at all. We have eventually arrived at 15 mg which has worked pretty well, lasting about 8 hours or so for the last 6 months or so. Now, I give his mis medication at 7am before school and the teacher tells me she sees him start to get aggrivated around noon-lunch time-. . We are now dealing with extreme tantrums and some being violent. We have an appointment tomorrow with the doctor. They have given me a few 5mg pills to add to his 15 mg pills until we can get in there on Friday and figure out what is best for him. We have always had a difficult time with homework and anything that comes after school because the medication has worn off by then. Like I said, I think (but i dont know for sure) that the amount of time that your childs medication is working sounds about right and frankly I wish ours lasted that long. I am not so sure how I would feel about giving my child MORE medication after school. Childrens sleep is so important in helping them focus in school. We have found it easier to do homework and other small tasks at home if we give him a lot of breaks. Its takes longer to get stuff done that way, but it also keeps me from having to give him more medication. Im not sure about you but I hate having to give my child medication as it is. I dont mind dealing with his hyperness at home. He gets out some of that energy and sleeps better at night. I am interested in hearing what has worked for you. Thanks

hours of effectiveness

Hi. Since I posted this we did Focalin XR 15 mg & rhen 5 mg immed release around 2:30 after school. That seemed to work. Our biggest problems were more lost weight (he's about a lb more than our 6yo daughter & he's 9) andn more importantly, increased anxiety. He developed a severe phobia of bees that really interfered w/ life. Behavioral therapy didn't work. It got a little better by end of camp but our dr was concerned about the anger & hostility he displayed in her office. It was lasting the day & rarely needed the 5mg. She put him back on Concerta XR 27mg plus .1mg of Clonidine at night. It was ok but it brought back his throat clearing/coughing tic which is not great for starting school. It wasn't working well enough to justify. She wanted us to try Daytrana (patch) because you control when it wears off when you take it off but our son refused. Last resort we convinced him & we are on day 2. Seemed good during the day but by evening he was acting very "evil"(his words). Seems everyrhing that has a shot impacts his mental well being. I'll keep this going until I think the behavior is too concerning.
