Some advice
It sounds like you have problems with either overfocusing or anxiety. You really need to bring this up with your doctor, and make sure he understands that it is interfering with your life. There are prescription meds and OTC supplements that can help. I take 5-htp for this very problem. Also, try exercising daily, even just a short walk. This increases bloodflow to the brain. Anxiety can sometimes be alleviated with a higher-carb diet, too.
Until you can get to your doctor, treat it like a bad habit. Each time you start to go down that road, as soon as you recognize it, start imagining a positive outcome instead.
