Vyvanse Side Effect?

Hello,

My 12 year old daughter started taking Vyvanse about 2 months ago. We started out at 20 mg and saw an immediate difference. After a few weeks, it seemed to lose its effectiveness a bit so we went up to 30 mg. Same thing happened. Now we have started taking 40 mg (just a few days ago) and I see a marked difference in her mood. She is more argumentative, a bit aggressive, and seems to have less impulse control. I assume this is from the increased dosage. Will this go away after her body adjusts to the higher dosage, or is this a sign that Vyvanse may not be for her? It seemed to work so well at first. Or maybe 40 mg is too much and we should stick to 30 mg?

(Side note - she was on Adderall XR for a couple of years which worked well at first but she lost a large amount of weight (and is small to begin with) and took herself off of the Adderall XR because she said it made her feel "dead inside". So, we are back to meds after a 2 year lapse in taking them.)

Thanks to anyone who can offer some insight!

Vyvanse Side Effect

Dear Mom,

I think you should take some time & checkout the different forums here (there are several) that discuss varying meds including Vyvanse The side effects from that drug on children are horrendous. I just read one post where a young child had a life threatening seizure that turned into a coma & brain damage.

Some doctors prescribe these new drugs without realizing the implications they can have on a child.

Several months ago I read a lot of posts in a forum here about Vyvanse. It was very scary!

Please take the time to educate yourself for your child's sake. Sometimes we put too much trust in our doctors when we need to be an advocate for ourselves & our children.

Good Luck

Vyvanse can be great!

My son started taking Ritilan XR and had hallucinations (without any coexisting disorders). He then went on Vyvanse and it worked FANTASTIC. I actually broke up a 20mg. to start. We had to up it, as you did, and he was great....but could not fall asleep. The doctor switched him to Adderall XR. I see it making him dead inside...just not himself. The rebound is awful. Both my husband and I take Vyvanse and have had great results. It does lose its effectiveness and needs to be titrated slowly. I haven't been able to find anything better for our ADHD. It is all individual. You may have to switch your daughters meds. Good Luck!!
