Going Back to School with ADD and a Learning Disability....am I CRAZY?

I am trying to go back to school via Online for Graphic Design (starting w/getting my Associates). I started back in August 2009 and the school I am attending doesn't really have much support at all for a student like with me, although the falsely advertised to me that they did. Does anyone have any advice or know where I can get some free tutoring in Central Jersey (Mercer County Area) ? I called my local Library they don't do tutoring, I contacted the Sylvan Learning Center - they tutor above 12th Grade, and I even tried one of my schools NY Campus and they don't respond, and I"ve been told them won't let me use their facillities. Right now the class I have is English 095 - which is very hard for me.

Back to school

If I were you, I'd avoid online classes, at least in the beginning. It is so easy to procrastinate in an online class!!

Head for a community college where you can receive free tutoring, and free access to their disability department. Work with the disability specialist to see what kind of accommodations you may need. Its all free and confidential.

And don't be afraid to disclose tol your instructors that you are ADD. Community colleges are filled with fellow ADDers. But when you disclose, you also need to tell the instructor some things they can do to help you. They could provide copies of their notes to you, or go over assignments with you during their office hours. Befriending an isntructor is the best way to make it through college. Perhaps you will meet some other students in your classes who are ADD as well.

Hire a coach if necessary. Also, some community colleges have "learning coaches" who meet with you each week to stay on task.

Best of luck to you

working on going back to school ....

See that's what I am going to have to do !!! I would love to be able to get my GED online but , I know that would be an easy way for me to procrastinate , so it's best that I go to my local community collage , enroll in GED prep classes , get access to their disability department , get myself a tuter and go from there . Once I have gotten my GED I am then wanting to presue my degree in Web graphic design as well .
