getting the high school to understand

Hey, Im a 17yr junior in school. All my classes are either advaced placment clasor honnors, and i've maintained a 3.85 gpa. I love going to school and can't wait for college, theres just one small glich. I have never been a good test taker and have always struggled with my reading speed. I was recently daignosed with ADD/ LD, which explained alot. I set up a meeting with my school about getting a 504 plan, which they then said i wasn't going to get. But they did make one suggestion for me to drop a class to "lighten" my load, I don't quite understand why they would say this. I'm not failing anything right now and inorder to get into the colleges i want to get into I need to be taking a full schedule, thats not just full of BS classes.

What i really need is for the school to take me seriously, and except the fact that I'm not their normall case, but i still need help. How do I get them to understand this?

the high school needs to follow the law

If you have a diagnosis from a licensed professional that is evidence that you qualify for support services. You need to get your parents involved and have them request an IEP meeting. In that meeting you can request a 504. Many times schools get away with not providing the services necessary for students with learning disabilities because it is inconvenient or costly for them. But the IDEA act which is a federal law protects the rights of individuals with disabilities. The school may have to do it's own assessment for academic needs but either way they are obligated to provide you with assistance and support. Also once identified with a LD there are support services avaliable in college as well, you just have to request them and show documentation of a disability Good luck
