Vyvanse-My 1st Med is dose too high?

I am a 45 yr old woman and I just began on 40mg of Vyvanse for ADHD and it's my first time to take medication for it ever. Today was only my 3rd day on it get acclimated to it's effects before school tomorrow (I'm also a student). It makes me feel like I'm on speed. Not horribly jittery, but still jittery and my heart rate is up and after 3 days it hasn't subsided. I can stand to feel like that tomorrow at school all day. I feel a little better by around 4-6 pm but the first few hours I feel compelled to do chores and such. I thought it would help me feel calmer not "speedy". It has helped my mind focus better and not want to jump from topic to topic as badly , but not enough to take it again tomorrow! I wonder if my does is just too high and I would feel better on 30 or even 20mg? Your thoughts would be greatly appreciated. BTW I have always had a very low tolerance to meds and only take 15 mg of Lexapro even though I weigh almost 180lbs. Thanks!! Karron

Vyvanse

My doctor started me on 20 mg of Vyvanse and told me to start at 20 for a couple days and then go up to 30 if I needed to. She told me NOT to jump right into a higher dose, because I would feel awful. 40 mg might be too high for you.

Thanks Jenny

Thanks Jenny and I think you're right. I dissolved the capsule contents in water yesterday and drank 1/2 of it and that helped me feel better, but I still got a horrible headache around 4 and it was really bad by 9:00!! I did't take it all today even though I have test. I called me Dr. so I'm waiting to see what they say. I hope the're something that will help my adhd and not make me feel so bad!!

vyvanse dosage

My 10 year old had the same reaction to too high of a dose of Vyvanse. We tried 60 and he felt so bad - jittery, elevated heart rate, etc. 40 seemed too low so we're down to 50 now with the addition of a med for the anxiety - seems to be ok for now. Definitely have your dr. lower that dose! good luck.

Cafeine

I felt jittery at first too, and my doc asked how much caffeine I was consuming. I'd been using that to wake me up, and once I cut down to just a morning cup of tea, the jitters went away. It's also good to have protein at breakfast. I'm more amped up when I haven't eaten well.
