Need to find a low cost doctor in NYC. No health Insurance. Cannot afford prior doctor.

Hello I'm 34 and I've been on Concerta for almost 5 years. I don't have health insurance anymore, and now my doctor is charging me 175$ per visitation. As concerta is a controlled drug I must see him every month, and pay him the full amount. It was 100 but his prices went up and now I can't afford the doctor and the medicine ! I would love to find a doctor with a lower visitation fee in NYC area. I realize there are free clinics but they do not handle ADD and mental clinics treat patients with mental disorders, or drug abuse. So now that I am not sick enough, or injured enough, or crazy enough, or poor enough, or old enough... how do I find a doctor and continue my medication? Please help .. thank you

Solution in NYC

MuNYC, you can try one of two things:

1. Atlantis Health Plan/AMG Medical Group (http://www.atlantishp.com/ and http://atlantismedicalgroup.com/) - You may have seen their ads on the subway recently; you can purchase complete individual health care coverage or pay a low monthly fee for basic care. I have been using them for a couple of years and they are not horrible but not great, still you have to be an empowered patient and advocate for yourself constantly.

2. Columbia University Department of Psychiatry/Medication Clinic (212.305.6001 or 212.305.2600)- They work on a sliding scale fee basis. You should know your provider will be a resident under the supervision of a licensed practitioner. Be prepared to have a new provider assigned to you every school year.

Good luck.

Need to find low cost doctor

Monthly visits? wow! My son's doctor sees him every 3 months. That seems like plenty to me!! Good luck finding another doctor.
