Sports are great for ADHD kids

My son (7 years old) was just diagnosed with having ADHD last week (we had been fighting this for a couple of years). He is not on any meds yet because we have been doing behavior modifications. Well, we may have to go on medicines soon. In the mean time, we will keep up with the behavior modifications because they do help.

My son's doctor told us that sports would help him to focus and to learn some self control (he playes basketball and baseball, sometime soccer). His doctor also said music would help. He started playing the piano 2 years ago. It was hard, at first, nothing but resistance from him. All he did was complain about how hard it was. We stuck with it, and kept him in it. Now he is in the middle of level two books and playing with both hands very well (in the level). I am very impressed with his playing. He plays in recitals and in front of family and friends. I tried to play the piano (on my own) and it's hard to focus on what both hands are doing, so I believe the doctor when he said this will help. My son liked the piano so much, that when school started this past Fall, he wants to play the clarinet. Last Thursday, his clarinet teacher told him that she wanted to move him up to the mid level band (vice beginner band). He was so happy.

Sports and my daughter

Thanks for the info Jadd... That's great news Smoketay, my daughter plays basketball during the school year, I would like to get her on a AAU team soon, its hard doing both during school (if you know what I mean) so I just stick with school ball, she's really getting better and better at it. She also loves to dance, she had musical dance in school and of course passed with just pure talent. But its just so hard with activities and trying to stay on top of work, and everything else, she does really need to be in an activity, and I love it when the activity puts the beating on her, she is so wore out. Can anyone tell me how do they juggle their days with their ADHD child in activities?

Thank you :-)
