questions about drug treatment

Hello everyone.

First post here. I'm a 31 year old male, with a recent (approx 1 month ago) diagnosis of Adult ADD. I live in the UK. Co-morbid with my ADD I have been suffering from depression for the last year. I'm currently on sertraline 100mg/day. In terms of treating my ADD the psychiatrist is not keen to give me stimulant medication as I have a long history of cocaine and amphetamine abuse (I've been clean since November and intend to stay that way - my contact with psychiatric services was basically initiated when I had a very severe episode of drug abuse end of 2008).

My psychiatrist has recommended CBT (which I'm waiting to be referred for) and Atomoxetine, but says that it's not good to be on atomoxetine and sertraline at the same time. Has anyone had experience of these therapies, and is what she's telling me correct? I'm really keen to get treatment, and from what I can see there's more evidence that drug therapy works than talking therapy.

I'd appreciate any advice anyone has to give.

Thanks.
