Scientific writing help

Are there any scientists on the forum? I am going to be defending my dissertation this semester, and I have realized, almost too late, how much my ADD is affecting the way I write. All of my advisor's comments seem to boil down to attention to detail: forgetting to define terms in an equation, for example, and not going into enough detail in the discussion or analysis or interpretation of results. I also think I was impulsive in when I gave my most recent paper/dissertation chapter to my advisor.

I suppose I had been trying to deny my ADD somewhere deep in my mind, but I can now see that I cannot rely on the power of my intellect to make up the slack when trying to write at this level.

The problem is that I'm not sure what I need to do to help myself, other than recruiting someone to review my papers before I give them to my advisor. Can anyone offer tips or advice?

Sure

I may be able to help although isn't this your mentor's job?? To let you know when to add more detail, etc... . He/she should know you and your "style" by now.

With that being said, I have gone down this road and was successful.

E-mail me privately

persistence

Writing my dissertation was the hardest thing I'd ever done. The only thing that got me through was reading it and making changes over and over again. Every time I read it I would see another small way to improve it. I probably went over it 50 times, to the point it was driving me crazy and I had to take a two week break. Then I came back and went over it many more times. It must have worked because I now have my Ph.D. Good luck with yours.
